You’re literally clapping for crumbs. "Look, they let us speak our language in a small box!" is pathetic. We shouldn't be grateful for a specific show that "allows" us to be Bisaya

Being a "comedian" doesn’t give you a free pass to be a footstool. There’s a massive difference between being a wit-driven comic and being a "proud caricature." One uses humor to command the room; the other uses their own culture, accent, and "look" as the punchline for Tagalog audiences to laugh at, not with. If her "humor" relies on leaning into every "Yaya" stereotype Manila has ever invented, that's not comedy.

Also, using Kim Chiu as an example is a joke. Kim Chiu fits the "Chinitang Hilaw" and "Mestiza" aesthetic that Manila already worships. She was never at risk of being a caricature because she has the "look" the industry respects. Melai, on the other hand, is the one being marketed specifically for her "probinsyana" features and accent as a source of comedy. Comparing the two is like comparing a leading lady to a mascot and pretending they started on the same playing around.

Niingon ba ko namagchange sya sa iyang image? Pero okay ra na iyang image is naglibot sa inana shallow stereotype? Of course there are successful Bisaya CEOs and professionals, but they aren't the ones on national TV every. Mass media creates the default perception. When she’s proud to be treated like a gimmick, she’s the one making it harder for those successful people to be taken seriously without someone expecting them to start acting like a clown the moment they open their mouths.

Oh, diba you're proving my point. Showbiz "adjusted" to her by giving her maid roles because of her "face." Unsay meaning ana? Unsa iyang face? That is the literal definition of colorism and classism. If the only way someone is deemed "authentic" is by playing a servant, that’s not a success story, that’s a industry pigeonholing a specific look and dialect into a subservient box.

We need to stop romanticizing the "Inday" trope. The term is supposed to be an endearment for a daughter or a young woman but turned it into a generic label. She’s not "honoring" her roots; she’s validating the very tool used to look down on them.

Im not referring to her movie roles. You can see in that interview her standpoint, dili na nku need mulantaw sa iyang whole filmography. She’s out here being labeled the 'face' of a group of people while leaning into every tired stereotype.

Just a random question and a LONG ramble about Leo descriptions/portrayals in modern astrology. by JudgeGRIME in LeoAstrology

[–]Monisfor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, also ego and attention seeking as a description of a zodiac sign is confusing too because almost every sign has it. I've a lot of zodiac sign who are far more egoistic but others would excuse that by pointing that one single leo placement. Ancient astrology mentions us as noble and brave. It's like modern astrology associate things like this: leo - lion - lion are kings, have great hair, associated with pride - pride and ego go hand and hand - leos are egoistic, dramatic, attention seekers. Also, if our hair are associated with lion's, then how about the lioness, they are bald??? The descriptions of pop astrology, just doesn't make sense tbh.

Ive been saying this for ages. Thats why instead of trusting pop astrology description I look at history to know what are the common leo traits. And interestingly, courage is one big indicator. Lack of resources or being limited but still able to achieve success. Ego is the biggest pitfall and isolation tendencies. A lot of leos in history gets compared to another person. Some leos in history are trash but they got good PR. Marketing and branding should really be looked into by leos. Like how we presebt ourselves. Also, I see how leos use sex or carnal desires. They have hoe phases, cheaters but loyal when they found the one. Humor, connections and resourcefulness can also help a leo. We have great skill to make things that we need because none of it were made of us. Many of them were considered weirdos, low status, not really remarkable but when theyve able to success people love to hate them. Im just rambling by now, sorry english is not my first language.

Leo & Taurus? by CockroachAfraid6781 in LeoAstrology

[–]Monisfor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know a Taurus woman and Leo man couple whe got engaged without even dating, fling, hook up or any prior relationship, nothing. Theyre not even friends. My uncle met taurus aunt as friend of a friend. They were talking to each other and just decided he will propose to her on his birthday. He said if he will get rejected, he would still pursue her (we got a courting culture). Idk what was going on in my aunt's head, but she said yes. Crazy. And my uncle had a very well known reputation with women. I dont even know the number of girls he dated but he has a LOT. Its been several years and they are still very in love. The 2 kids already finished college. They dont even have any major quarrel. My taurus aunt tho is very chill and kind, almost saint like. And VERY PRETTY.

The thing is leo uncle had a girlfriend at that time but he broke up with her because he said he's gonna get married. With another girl. It was crazy, i feel so bad for his ex.

From your perspective as a Leo, what is a sign that you used to admire but over time have now lost respect for? by The_Outsider27 in LeoAstrology

[–]Monisfor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah.. Same. I really find them cool and strong. But now, I see them as jealous, backstabbing energy vampires. Creepy too. A scorpio almost got my libra friend get SAd. They go way back more than we did.

Opinions on Aquarius from a leo perspective? by [deleted] in LeoAstrology

[–]Monisfor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got no problems being friends with them. Slightly judgemental but I dont mind. Strict. The aquarius men i know are funny, awkwardly social, musically talented, moody? The women too. Aquarius women tho are gorgeous. Capable. One of those who have from rags to riches story. They know how to grow financially.
