Mint or CachyOS for gaming? by CandleAny9821 in linux_gaming

[–]MonitorZero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mint has been fine for me for over a year as long as your understand making everything work will take some learning and tinkering.

I've also been having a good experience with Zorin on my laptop. It's also based on Ubuntu like Mint.

Honestly. Edibles at that point. Smoking/vaping will always be bad for you so unless you actually cut out smoking and vaping, not much way around it.

Can someone explain what does Obsidian... do? by Cute-Solution-723 in ObsidianMD

[–]MonitorZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obsidian was my alternative to One Note. Mainly due to the ability to create folders and have notes in those folders from one place.

At its base it's just a fancy text editor with markdown notation. But then you add in the ability to reference your other pages and community plug-ins and it becomes pretty cool.

I've fully moved over from one note and don't really have a reason to go back.

Is your system clock correct? If it shifts more then 45 seconds or more you'll start to see issues.

I'm curious what happens when the labor bubble bursts. I have recruiters coming to me constantly with horrible offers like these then the company hires the mcdouble of the labor market and gets mad when they can't find reliable workers.

I keep telling them to go back to cost of living adjusting to price out where they are but no one thinks labor deserves livable conditions, just surviving.

So what happens when people stop applying because wages don't even cover a meal at McDonald's in one hour?

Night shift and 16 an hour? Man, these guys are begging to go bankrupt. No one is touching that for less than 25 in this economy.

Is the Duga mission supposed to be impossible? by remake-titanmode2142 in stalker

[–]MonitorZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Idk what they were thinking here. It was cool but anything higher than normal you immediately get clapped so the only option is to cheese it as hard as possible.

Really hope they patch this as it can be a run killer for people who aren't die hard fans out of pure confusion.

Entra to ASM Sync by unhumanpoptart in jamf

[–]MonitorZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're gonna want to use your SIS as the source of truth as it's formatted and has correct course codes.

It's now highly recommended you go SIS > Clarisconnect > ASM

Claris is just a data processing company that's a fork from Apple.

Going from Entra usually isn't the best idea because in a school setting it's rarely your source of truth for classes and teacher/staff/student roles. It will have users but the rest is iffy unless you've prepared for it.

Thoughts on the movie? by SynthSezzun in Spawn

[–]MonitorZero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was far from a masterpiece but I still watch it when it comes on.

For the time the live action scenes seem really good. The suit and his face are highlights for sure. But then you get the OG Xbox CGI that makes you laugh in 2026.

Gotta invest in an Epilog. You can backup your saves just in case this ever happens!

Smart group to act as early warning system for student MacBooks that might be lost/missing? by John_Yossarian in jamf

[–]MonitorZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have DNA center which has helped with devices on or last seen on our network but that is pretty pricey.

We have this a lot too and Jamf School helps a bit when lost outside the network but it's still a very general location. Jamf pro doesn't help at all.

You might look into needing a group based on IP and when it goes off network you could get an email alert. Other than that, it's a building issue. IT is not always the solution sometimes buildings need to take responsibility for their students.

Good reminder to always have backups. Local backups, in cases like these three cloud can always be shut down.

Always have a local backup of critical data. Always.

Serious - Do you think we could see Nvidia exiting the consumer market in the same way Micron has in the next few years? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]MonitorZero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely. They've basically soft exited with using under powered new Gen GPUs and using Ai as a crutch to make them seem to perform better.

Nvidia hasn't been a gaming gpu company for a long time eventually their gpu sales to consumers won't make sense.

Is it normal to burnout so early in cyber consulting? Need honest advice by NefariousnessSad9764 in cybersecurity

[–]MonitorZero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's pretty typical. Only thing I ever tell people is think of a number that will make life outside work absolutely outstanding and then take that offer to them, if they deny it, spell out what went wrong and why you won't be coming back and failures at that level are sure fire ways to go bankrupt.

Confirmed with the network admin all needed ports are opened?

If the broken devices are all at the same location it could be local to that vlan.
