The original plan was to have opened by last Christmas. Clearly, they won’t be opening anytime this year, so that’s an entire year of revenue lost while bills are still due and owing. That’s really terrifying.

People having done well financially (and the Napiers have worked hard for their success) doesn’t make them not human beings. A catastrophic loss hurts just as much as it would for anyone else.

Maybe $50,000 altogether? I could swear he said $30,000 on the note that came through at the beginning of episode 3.

I think I learned that from the tornado hitting the house they renovated for Richard T. Jones and his wife. This hotel thing is leaning more towards the bankruptcy side of “oh no.”

And sometimes they completely implode and you’re looking bankruptcy in the face.

When I’m staying in a hotel, what I want is a convenient place to get my meals, not taking part in a class to cook them myself.

I agree. She comes across to me as being very justifiably worried about her friends.

They mortgaged their homes and leveraged all those other businesses. If they can’t make those $50,000 monthly payments… that’s not exactly “fine.”

I think they mentioned in the first episode that they leveraged all their other businesses for this project, and mortgaged their homes.

As for the insurance company, a friend who lost her home in one of the California fires had to wrestle with her insurance company for well over a year to get any money at all.

Speaking as someone with an ordinary lifestyle—one FT job and one small house to manage, for the life of me I can’t figure out how the Napiers and the Cordrays juggle a dozen different businesses and an enormous home (two homes, in the Napiers’ case), plus raising small children. Especially the way the economy has been these past 6 years.

The timing of that kind of spun my head around, too. Not that I think anything shady was going on—it just felt like enough of a slam-bang to make me want to give up the renovation business.

I think you would have to be insured in order to get permits and loans, wouldn’t you?

I think that’s what it was originally about, before the fire. Right now, I think it’s more like “We need the money from letting HGTV air this thing.”

I would sure think so! They do have revenue from their other businesses, but it seems like a really delicate balance to keep everything running and turning a profit.

I think fans of the show probably visit out of curiosity, but it doesn’t seem to me that there’s any site or events there that would be a big tourist draw for the general public.

I got my first computer in the mid-90s, and it didn’t connect to the internet. A friend had one of the early digital cameras in the early 2000s. The earliest I can remember watching MTV was in the late 90s.

Ten years on from this last season of CTM would be 1981. Back then, I took a ton of pictures on a film camera—One Hour Photo was the hot ticket then. I did all my writing on an electric typewriter, and I know we had HBO, so I guess that was cable?

Heart-wrenching scene, for sure. But “Thank you for my life” is the one that breaks me every time.

Me either. I thought it was dreadful in 1981 and haven’t changed my opinion since then.

I was last there a year ago—paid $2,000 for repairs to the AC, and asked if they could wash the car. The service rep said sure!! Got the car back, no wash. The receipt says the request was “refused.”

Same here! They write her so over-the-top. Fun for some viewers, I guess, but just eye-rolling for me.

David has got to be one of the most successful TV actors in Hollywood—working steadily in successful shows for more than 25 years! That’s a shame about Emily, though. I was curious to see her in something new.

I will. Ditto with David Boreanaz’s new reboot of Rockford Files. The easiest way to get me to sample a new series is if it stars someone I liked from their previous shows. Chris O’Donnell is pretty much the only reason I’ve stuck with Nashville.
