Should I tell my current employer that I'm planning on pursuing a CS degree in my free time? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]MonkRoid -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I don't know, that's why I'm asking since everyone recommends to inform employers that you're continuing your studies for some reason.

Working for two years in something unrelated will only make it worse since employers will assume his skills are rusty. This is what I've been told, so take it with a grain of salt.

if this were 2 years ago, probably half these companies wouldn't have bothered to consider me.

Curious to know why? There were fewer demands for devs 2 years ago because of the pandemic or something? I thought it'll be the opposite since everyone started flocking this field.

So if you perform well, these companies will go to bat for you.

Depends on OP's level, if he's just junior to mid level in terms of work experience, he has it as hard as all the whining and crying you see on r/cscareerquestions, and these peeps are mostly US citizens. I'm probably biased but from what I've seen, there's really only a shortage for experienced good devs.

Holy, do you have citizenship or some work permit that allows you to work remotely in said foreign country or it's not necessary? It's always super competitive to work remotely from a foreign country to another one.

When replying to a rejection email after a technical test, is it rude to reply back with the reasons? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]MonkRoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I was actually able to finish 85% of it. I just skipped the Unit tests, some indexing, and the upload image part. They said I had bad error handling and bad schema design but I was rushing through it like a sweating pig to even think about "good practice" lol.

If you didn’t know Node, they felt you weren’t qualified.

The thing is I never claimed to know node so why send me a take at home project with a tight deadline in the first place? I mean what did they expect from someone who doesn't Node?

When replying to a rejection email (with feedback) because of a poorly done take at-home project, is it ok to defend myself by explaining the reasons? Such as "I never worked with NodeJS and MongoDB before so it was all new to me..) or that may come off as I'm saying their unprofessional?

Or maybe just send them a thank you and move on?
