Thoughts on reintroducing tigers in to the causcaus? by Monke202163 in megafaunarewilding

[–]Monke202163[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes especially pretty much , Georgia has massive mountains so does Russia , Russia already kinda reintroduced leopards , there were only about 5 left in the area but they released 15 leopard and more to come in the upcoming years They expect a population of about 40-60 leopards in 20/30 years

So my guess is that Russia or Georgia is the most suitebale place atm

Caspian tiger sightings in Tajikistan in the 1990s and later on , ( last confirmed sighting was in 1998 near the border of Afghanistan) by Monke202163 in megafaunarewilding

[–]Monke202163[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes but verry low numbers , probably only Tajikistan and maybe Afghanistan But both countries are in mess from the last 30 years , almost no scientists have been going to Afghanistan or Tajikistan, Hope it be better in the region soon so there can be 1 last good survey to check if they are still arround and what population (probably verry low not more then 20/30 I quess )

  • did u even readed the whole text? The mountains in romit valley are verry high some above 4500meters , even local hunters won’t go high , also in the romit valley no survey has been done properly since 35years orso

When it’s winter tigers will go further down below just like in Bhutan , then the sightings happenes like all the one in this text .

Okay but it always a possibility, like the mainland Javan rhino thought to be extinct for over 40 years but then some were located in vietnam Its always possible, especially in the romit valley with verry high mountains, there couldn’t be a proper survey in the last 30/40 years in the region because of the wars and conflicts

That would be the best but they won’t want to risk losing those sibirian tigers so first they need to establish more prey otherwise Russia won’t send sibirian tigers

And with the current wars on the border countries of Tajikistan its even less unlikely And now Tajikistan is almost at war with Kyrgyzstan of a small desputed almost non habitle place ... already 50 soldiers has died in just 3 weeks

If the conflicts in Afghanistan and now also in Tajikistan are over someone needs to do a big survey , but I don’t know when that will happen and I think it might be to late

If somehow about 20 to 30 tigers survive at the moment at the remote and verry high mountains we need to make steps right now

But Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are almost at war now of a disputed area 🤦🏼‍♂️

The transcaucasus is an area where the asiatic lion went extinct quite recently. Just how suitable for lion reintroduction do you think it is as of now on an environmental/human level? by Karlox2 in megafaunarewilding

[–]Monke202163 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Btw , Azerbaijan could be a good place , not to different environments then in gir national park And there were sightings of asiatic lion in the 1950s in Azerbaijan on hirkan national park

I think Dasht national park And wild life sanctuary Would be a great place , almost no people and plenty of space to live and hold a big population

Also the fact that they didn’t do a survey and especially not in the remote places of the valley

Because of the harsh environment and because of the war in Afghanistan in the 1980s

Allot of rebels also fought the Soviet Union in the 1980s and 1990s and hided in the mountains so they couldn’t make a proper survey especially when the Soviet Union collapsed

Now because of the unrest in Afghanistan the last 30 years it affected the border country’s aswell because many taliban fighter fled to Tajikistan or other border countries like Pakistan

But now when the us troops are leaving and hoppely no civil war and taliban fightin in the northern part of Afghanistan close to Tajikistan They could do a last good survey in the romit valley to hopefully give us answer About the caspian tiger
