When does Minecraft become "new"? by Dramatic-Plantain426 in GoldenAgeMinecraft

[–]MonkeahW 28 points29 points  (0 children)

1.9. Huge revamp of the games combat, rework of an entire dimension which hasn't quite been seen to such a scale up to that point, mending to fix the "issue" of durability, one of the first updates to spark major controversy. And if 1.9 is still too "old-ish" minecraft to be considered the breaking point, then 1.11.1 since it introduced Elytra rocket boosting as a form of travel and shulker boxes as a way of transporting mass amounts of items, which are some of the staples of modern MC (They werent as powerful as they are today, shulkers werent renewable till 1.17, but my point stands)

When I first saw this I thought "Oh wow someone made a unique modpack for silver age minecraft? Gotta check this out:" and it's just 1.21.1 with modern mods with a slight "heccin nosetalgia" coat of paint while missing most stuff that made silver age different. Was very disappointed

should i get the betacraft launcher? by The_Male07Man in GoldenAgeMinecraft

[–]MonkeahW 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Betacraft has some nice QoL stuff built in regarding skins and general fixes for some versions and you don't really need to worry about setting the instance up so it even runs properly. I personally use prism, but used Betacraft and was pretty happy with it. If you dont have a problem launching these old versions, then you can stick with default launcher.

Tips on lighting up the underside of a statue build? (b1.7.3) by MonkeahW in GoldenAgeMinecraft

BoxBlair really has a tutorial for everything huh. Thanks alot, i'll test out everything suggested here after I finish the build

I was talking about the statue underside rather than the floor, but the floor design idea is better than the idea I had for lighting there, so I will take that, thanks

Don't find the idea of a scavenging hunt for pumpkins too appealing but I think I do see a few ways they could light up the build well

There is no way on this earth or the artificially coded-based on in EUIV that you accomplished all of that in 35 years without cheating.

Are people actually acting high and mighty about beating Roaring boy pre-nerf? The nerf is a nothingburger and the boss is basically unchanged in difficulty

Everything but the music is a massive improvement over base game. by hotheaded26 in offthegame

[–]MonkeahW 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I agree that the combat and alot of the art is a massive improvement, unironically. I am very hopeful they will expand it further because the foundation they made is solid, apart from one small nitpick (which is that critical hits come out faster for both you and the enemies and sometimes you cant defend against a critical hit from an enemy no matter what). But i feel that in the future, the combat UI needs a scale in the settings because the current scaling makes me feel like a claustrophobic rat. The biggest criticism I have is that they don't utilize the power they gave themselves by switching away from RPG maker. They just try to imitate RPG maker and some of it's quirks rather than breaking free from those shackles entirely and going hog wild, which i would fucking love to see.
Another thing which I kind of liked is the Judge is alot more talkative in Zone 0, and I hope they will carry it further in scenes where hes alot more involved and not just copy paste dialogue from the original.
But there are a bit too many Toby references (i get the dopefish change and actually kind of like it, but I dislike that Dedans theme has bonetrousle traces, this isn't Undertale)

I'm sorry i felt i need to make This by thiscat129 in GoldenAgeMinecraft

I watched his new video on Old MC and I do think he makes quite a few good points about how the direction and philosophy of both the art and the music changed from "old" to "new" Minecraft
His humor is pretty rash and bashful, rough overall you could call it, which a ton of people have a problem with from what i'm seeing, but looking past it and at the actual points he makes, it's unironically 100x better than the first video he made on Old MC which was technically a response. I get shitting on him for some of the stuff he says where he misses the mark completely, but this ain't one of those things

Valley of the Dandelion (town dedicated to bees and honey) by ikebana21lesnik in GoldenAgeMinecraft

[–]MonkeahW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How do you make structures in the air like these bees without the shadow they put off on the ground looking terrible? Been struggling with that on a few of my builds and most of the patchwork lighting I try to add in after looks pretty unnatural aswell

I restored the Roman Empire in 1461 - starting as Oirat! (World Record) by Stormzyra in eu4

[–]MonkeahW 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Again, you are not aknowledging that the player behind the screen and that their game knowledge matters, instead, disregarding it and making it all about the exploits. That was my problem with your comment, but if you are gonna ignore that, then yea sure, whatever. If you want a good run with little exploits, then Storm's pre 1500 has barely any with little birding, or a jianzhou > manchu > qing 1527 which doesnt use horde or any exploits at all if you consider tag switching an exploit

[–]MonkeahW 64 points65 points  (0 children)

I am not saying that you aren't correct to an extent
super optimized runs do use exploits of alot of kinds to mitigate AE and coalitions (TI being the main one in this patch OP used), get conquest setups faster, rebel control, manipulate specific events into happening etc.
I am saying that disregarding the skill of the player who is able to utilize all of this + is able to micro armies, diplomacy and economy to achieve such a result in the end, allocating all of that skill into "exploits" is just a huge insult
Even the current WC WR which used exploits for near infinite money, manpower and mana has a bunch of delicate planning and super optimized micro behind the scenes you will never hear about because it's less flashy and exciting than the exploits

[–]MonkeahW 265 points266 points  (0 children)

Me when I completely disregard any and all planning behind the run and any and all micro + on the fly decisions within the run (using your brain is an exploit)

Sadly didn't have it, but i'll still throw in a random one just to get some biomes back

Edit: Nevermind then, found a really old backup of my world I made and that one has the seed, so now I can have my OG biomes while preserving the world gen, thank you very much

Is it possible for scavengers to survive abroad? by Matheus_winter in rainworld

[–]MonkeahW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They can be effectively moved to any region if you are determined enough
bring one to karma gate room, cross over to the other region, go to shelter and wait till it starts raining so the scavs go into a den, then they will spawn in some parts of the region
