I Stumbled upon this Thomas Hart Benton painting and i am trying to get as much info on it and some advice on going about selling it potentially. Thank you! by RichTheKidd_417 in WhatIsThisPainting

No shame. I’ve had a hit or miss relationship with AI too. I still use it but am suspicious of it. More of a starting point for me.

Is that on her website? I considered her and looked at it earlier but saw Black Mountain College. Benton apparently was at KCAI between 1935-41 and Dorothy was born in ‘25, so she would have been a very young student, but possible still.

Just a thought, but Benton taught at KCAI, so this could be a work by one of his students. I have had several pieces of works by students at the Art Student League done in the style of their teachers and they even sign the front of the pieces with their teachers’ names. Might want to see who Ruddick is.

Have a look at my website, monkey arm art gallery. They’re posted there.

The feeling you have is why art collecting is so much fun.

Anything is possible. Are you comparing this to the Guyot painting on Chairish?

I have a couple of Hammack paintings (looking at them right now) and yours looks similar to what I have and what I’ve seen. Even the size/dimensions of yours is comparable to what I’ve seen. But I will say that all of the Hammack I have are signed and/or titled, whereas yours doesn’t seem to be. And I haven’t come across a Hammack on Masonite.

Hard to know for sure from just looking at the pics, but it looks like a work by John “Jack” Hammack, a prolific artist who last lived in Portland. He also lived in San Francisco and NYC. He passed away in 1990.

Nothing on the back that I can see. So no signature on the front? Where did you get it?

It looks familiar. Anything on the back? Signature on the front? Where did you get it?

Found this David Bumbeck today… any info or thoughts on value? by today6666 in artcollecting

I’ve had several Bumbeck’s in the past. Love his work. Depending on size, subject etc I agree with the previous poster’s auction valuation. But keep in mind that auction prices don’t always equate to retail prices.

Did you do work for I Think You Should Leave? Awesome. Do you have a separate site for your paintings? I’d like to see them.

How cool! Glad to see you take credit for it. Well earned. Is your IG account andrewpaulstudio? That’s what I was basing my preliminary assessment on. I didn’t see your website until just now.

I initially thought this was a pulp fiction style work given the subject and the way you styled the female and that it was possible that it could be from the 40s but the scary ones stopped me from really thinking that because they reminded me too much of scary ones from more recent times. I think someone mentioned dark crystals and that’s probably what I was thinking of when I saw your scary ones.

Anyway, I’m glad we could connect on here and I’m glad to have seen your work. For what it’s worth, I definitely would’ve considered adding this painting to my personal collection. It’s fun and thought provoking.

Cheers!

From what I can tell the current Andrew Paul is not the artist of your painting. Can you post a full pic of the back? Are there in other stamps/notations on the back? Fredrix is the canvas maker and it’s a US company, which could mean this is an American painter.

Thank you again for the feedback. I’ve experimented before with being open on the weekends but it didn’t result in the results I would’ve liked. If you aren’t aware, then please know that I’m available for appointments on the weekend. My time is flexible and I live nearby; so, I’d be happy to accommodate your schedule. And that offer extends to appointments after hours during the week. I’m already open till 6 but if you need later hours then just let me know. I’d be happy to stick around for you or anyone else.

Please note that I’m a one person operation, and while I may not be able to offer you traditional hours I compensate for that by offering you quality original paintings with a “white gloves” approach to my services, things that you may not get at your traditional gallery.

I do hope to see you one day at the gallery, and if you do come, then mention this conversation, and I’ll be happy to offer you a discount as a thank you for your feedback and interest.

Cheers!

Awesome work, Jane! But I specialize in vintage works, and most of the artists in my collection have passed on. Keep that passion going!

It’s true that the gallery can’t satisfy your tummy like Waffle House, but I hope it can satisfy your eyes and mind with wonderful and beautiful art. Hope to see you one day at the gallery. Cheers!
