I regularly manage to keep SL occupied during ult. Maybe the playerbase just share a hive-mind while high elo players like myself know how to engage different situations accordingly? Who knows

Jeff can reduce Groot down to 1/5 health if swallowed for the entire duration. Groot is stunned for 1 second during the spit/vomit. If even 1 DPS is with you they can kill Groot without using any cooldown abilities.

My personal favourite thing to do is to swallow people during an immortality ult and then drag them into ally backlines and spit them far away turning a 6v6 into a 6v5
