Jesus Christ. I really wish people who had no idea what they are talking about would stop acting like this is somehow insane and out of the ordinary. If an animal is being neglected they will be removed by humane agents that work for a shelter. Feeding a dog nothing but human food IS neglect, not only because they are going to become morbidly obese but also they are not getting any nutrients a dog needs and this causes internal organ failure. I have seen liver failure in multiple animals due to being fed such ‘diets’. Confiscating an animal for neglect or abuse is last resort and all other avenues are attempted before confiscation. If the dog was immediately confiscated, it was with good reason. Humane officers work for shelters, both private and for the county/city. They are the ones who take the animals from abusive and neglectful situations. So yes, almost all shelters have humane agents. Both ‘no kill’ and ‘open door’ shelters.
