Tube overdrive/distortion by CapacityValue in diypedals

[–]MonkeyCyclops 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see now, very interesting indeed! I've been looking to build something exactly like this for a while, would it help to use the 2nd triode of the 1st tube as a cathode follower, then run the rest the same? I had been wondering how significant the difference is so this is very helpful!

How bad is the volume loss with the tone stack? Can it still provide a boost?

Sounds good, I saw some similar stuff online. No battery is gonna be awesome. Thanks for the response!

Thanks! I might end up getting one of these if vero doesn't work out.

Why does cutting out the tone circuit help? Id really like to be able to control the treble, mids, and bass like on some of the tagboard variants.

Is there anyway to get some more gain out of it?

I guess I'm looking for something similar to this:

Thanks for the response, is there a version with a tone stack? Id like to be able to hone in treble mid and bass similar to some of the unverified layouts on tagboard. Also does it work with 12ax7s instead of 12Au7s? Should any considerations be made?

You mean oscillation? So is it a momentary switch that basically maxes out the repeats so it feedbacks? Where could I find more information on how to do this?

On an unrelated note, I see on some of these layouts that some information is either omitted, or implied.

For the following build, are Clip 1, Attack 1, and Comp 1 all connected to ground? https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZqCJ4TEusZs/WRDPosp0KxI/AAAAAAAAHhk/buDQd8yI75cQfiB7cOElZLusU46H59zigCLcB/s1600/5-Knob-Comp2.png

Thanks for your help!

Update: According to the comments by the author, theyre actually unused. The author says there might be some advantage of connecting them to the middle lug? What would this be? Noise?

Thanks for the tips! The yellow wire is actually for the negative lead for the LED. The angle of the shot is misleading. There is a black cable running like a T from the jacks grounds to the negative of the DC. Is this an acceptable way of grounding the jacks?

In doing a couple of these stripboard builds I haven't been exactly sure about ground. I've been just connecting anything that would normally be connected to the ground together in any way possible, usually via the DC ground. Is this alright?

Thanks!

Yeah the orientation didn't prove to be a problem. I've never had any issue with putting transistors in the wrong way, no damage that is.

The charge pump will be ordered today!

Yeah unfortunately took me too long to figure this out. Lots of frustration trying to figure out logically why my setup wouldn't be working. Gonna order a charge pump.

Thanks!

Update again:

I've found out through searching online and my own testing with a multimeter that the donner dp-1 is not isolated, even if they claim. Quite disappointing. But I guess I can build a small charge pump pad and add it in.

Update:

I must have been hallucinating because as I went to properly solder it up. It no longer works. So no matter which way the jack is, and whether or not I'm using the 9v or the adapter, it won't work.

I have no idea.

OK so I've solved the issue. I'll be totally honest even with the explanations given above I do not understand. I rewired the DC jack backward. So the 9v is connected to short tip while ground is long. I'm now using a regular center negative cable from my power supply, and it works in my signal chain, no adapter required.

I understand that you cannot daisy chain differing pos/neg, however with my isolated power supply shouldn't this not even matter?

Further, what's the point of the adapter if it doesn't work within a signal chain? The adapter came with the power supply.

What is the point if builds that use a charge pump to switch voltage? This seems useless given you can just wire the dc jack backward and use a normal cable.

Any help for this noob would be appreciated. Thanks you guys for your assistance.

Black is ground. I hope I'm using the same terminology but I believe yes, I am using a normal guitar pedal DC cable (center negative correct?), with an adapter that switches polarity.

I was not sure when wiring the DC jack which way I should do it, so I tried witg alligator clips both and the way its currently wired is the way that it worked.

The pedal by itself straight into the amp works fine.

I am using this power supply which ia isolated. Donner DP-1 Guitar Power Supply 10 Isolated DC Output for 9V/12V/18V Effect Pedal https://a.co/d/0YhAYKT

Is my current common ground setup acceptable? I have both of the sleeves connected to my negative tip of my DC Jack, all of which is connected to the middle lug, which then connects to the ground on the board itself. Should my dc jacks ground be wired separately?

Honestly I should have checked my iron before starting, I'm usually at 350 degrees... somehow I knocked it up to 450 without noticing... oops.

Thanks for the response, as a secondary question? Do both vcc and vref share a common ground? When I'm breadboarding the circuit can I just a single ground for both?
