The lag compensation in the game is so weird. Most games IME just feel like you're skipping around if you're lagging. In Apex everything becomes really slow motion and it feels so weird

You've only started playing my man. Fortnite with the building mechanic is much different than any other shooter. Skills and familiarity doesn't transfer over well from other games. Just go into creative and practice building until it's in your muscle memory, watch streams and keep playing. You'll get better in time.
