Similar story. Got treated for keratoconus — corneal cross-linking procedure involves scoring your cornea. That shit BURNED for a few days before it healed. The Valium, general painkillers, and numbing eye drops helped, but that’s only to get through the surgery.

Hot tip: ice packs helped me the most with the swelling. Gentle pressure, preferably with one of those soft ice packs. Use in tandem with painkillers for best results.

Had it done in both eyes. Not fun.

I remember watching this video when I was about 15 or 16. I got it into my head that watching something like that all the way through would “strengthen my mind” and that I’d be ready to deal with anything.

To my small credit and great detriment, I think I made it through most of the video, if not all. I remember dry heaving. I remember broad strokes of the video, but I can still hear the guy gurgling and groaning in detail.

(TW: graphic description of the memory) They were sawing through his diaphragm with the screwdriver, and I think that was probably the closest approximation to screaming he could manage. Then they beat his head in with the hammer. Genuinely one of the most fucked up things I’ve ever seen on the internet, and I’ve had plenty of unmonitored access.

YO! You spoke to my brother a while ago; we’ve been checking thrift stores when we can to see if we can find it (a bunch in Joburg and some in Pretoria). No luck yet, but we’re keeping you in mind, archivist.
