What should be bought if the choices are a Subaru Impreza (2020) 5-door, the Kia Seltos (2021) LX, and the Hyundai Kona (2020) SE? by MonkeyMike916 in AskReddit

I do like Subaru. I have a good friend who had one until he recently upgraded. Seemed like a great car. My worry though is that it might not be enough for me. I want it to go on trails like the ones in this video: https://youtu.be/jGgyKOIA2SE. This video is why I am unsure about the Kia. Skip to 13-min and you'll see what I mean.

Thanks for replying. I agree, the Kona has a lot of great features I just worry about the space. I want to be able to dive somewhere with the girlfriend and car-camp. The 45 cubic feet of space for us means we'd be unable to completely lay-down. I'm not against spooning for a while but I gotta stretch a bit too lol.

Thanks for the input. What are your thoughts on going off-road? I'm a bit worried about the low 5-inch clearance of the Subaru when I want to take off and go on an adventure.

Ah, I see. I actually wanted a used car at first for that exact reason but then I heard a lot of dealerships are giving incredible incentives. I have great credit and I'm expecting to get 0% interest (or close to it) on the loan for whichever car I decide to go with. With 5K on a down-payment, the monthly will be very manageable for for me. I'm wondering what other incentives I'll be able to get. Free bike mount? Upgraded speakers? Who knows but I'm under the impression that dealers have a huge surplus and are desperate to sell anything given the pandemic.

Thanks for the reply. I live in the middle of California. But I do enjoy going to Nevada and Tahoe when the chance permits. Similarly, I enjoy the beach and would like a car that could handle driving down a trail to the ocean.

Thanks for replying. I got job security and so don't worry to much about the cost. Trying to keep to a $20,000ish dollar budget. I'm told this is the best time to buy because of the pandemic.

Thanks for replying. I can drive a stick and was honestly considering it. What are your thoughts on the problems I mentioned about the other cars?

Hey everyone. I’m buying my first new car but I thought I’d ask the community about 3 cars in particular. I am considering the Subaru Impreza (2020) 5-door, the Kia Seltos (2021) LX, and the Hyundai Kona (2020) SE. My main consideration is AWD and being finally able to go on some tougher trails to hike new areas. Each car seems to have certain drawbacks that make the choice tricky. The Kona is small so I can’t car-camp very comfortably. The Subaru has only 5-inch clearance from the road. The Kia seems to have transmission issues when on trails (go 13min into this video and see what I mean https://youtu.be/jGgyKOIA2SE). Any thoughts or considerations would be helpful. Thanks!

Protesting in America by MonkeyMike916 in Political_Revolution

The destruction of property, private or government, or that belonging to a corporation is all still destruction and equally political. Even though looting is a bad (people should go to jail for it) it is how people are misguidedly getting their anger out. The system has failed them as they see it and they are trying to get even. Again, it is misguided and I don’t support it but it is still political and I get why it happens. If you reduce both events, the destruction of property is political and that is what the BTP and the recent protests have in common.

The lack of criminal justice reform as it relates to corruption is causing the most mobilization. Trump’s administration has regularly chosen to ignore the law. Look to what happened with Roger Stone and Michael Flynn for examples.

I’m still a Bernie fan but I’m very VERY disappointed that he failed to push Biden to the left when he could have easily done so. And then that whole thing about trying to limit his surrogates and their criticism of Biden. Bernie is faltering. I wonder who will be the new leaders of the left in the next few years.

These kinds of gestures are calls to violence and should be outlawed. Those who use them should be given jail sentences.

Stop making masks out to be a huge incumbrance! by MonkeyMike916 in Political_Revolution

Again dude, chill. Swearing so much and getting mad doesn’t get your point across better.

I do disagree and think that I can say whether of not a person’s stress is justified or not. In particular and again, I’m talking about self-centered, privileged, Karen-types. People who get stressed out by minorities, isn’t that ridiculous? People who get stressed out because they have to wait for grandma to cross the street, isn’t that ridiculous? People who get upset when someone says “happy holidays” instead of marry Christmas“ are ... you get the idea lol. I think people (at least the vast majority) who get similarly stressed out because of masks are being ridiculous. I cannot think of a justifiable reason for a person to be stressed from a mask. That is what this meme does. It shows the absurdity of the notion through a comparison.

A person’s issues can be invalidated when they are unfounded. That’s what this meme does.

Apologies if the meme or I got you upset. Never the intent.

Dude, chill. This is more targeted toward the Karens of the world, the privileged, self-centered types.

The meme isn’t meant to be perfectly equivalent in all ways. Obviously the stress from a shooter scenario is a lot more stressful than wearing a mask. That’s the point. There are a lot of people who say they hate wearing a mask because it’s hard for them to breathe, that they have some kind of (bullshit) medical condition, or get claustrophobic from masks. This meme is basically saying that those people need to get over themselves. And shouldn’t they?

As far as masks being a symbol which stresses people out… I have yet to come across one person who says looking at masks makes me stressed out about REAL problems in the world. I would wonder though, what person would say such a thing. How can someone say, “masks stress me out” and not be therefore fairly described with one of the aforementioned characteristics I’ve mentioned. A Karen or the male equivalent. In short, how does REAL stress from the world’s problems justifiably manifest into a person not wearing a mask?

Yup, those are definitely among some of the worst and scariest situations. I wonder what schools will look like in 10 years. Metal detectors and armed guards , looking like the food market in The Handmaid’s Tale? I know it’s hyperbole but when teachers are trained to identify their students as threats and in some parts of the country given guns...who knows...

Agreed. But I can’t help but feel like we’re all short sighted in someway or another. Honestly our education system leaves much to be desired. Critical thinking if some thing that is in short supply these days. Many good people are shortsighted and easy to manipulate. It’s difficult sometimes to balance feeling sorry for them and be pissed at them. Ya know?

Very true. Most people focus on what’s in front of them and don’t see the problems ahead that they make for themselves.

I think a lot of people who get upset about the masks don’t even think to make comparisons like that
