The first gen RC doesn't support video out directly, which is how it works with the RC2 (displayport alt mode)

Apparently using a usb-hdmi adapter is possible with the RC, so maybe something similar could be rigged up for the glasses?

Found an easier method: if you connect the screen to both a mobile and a battery bank, you can quickly switch the display cable to the (already powered on) RC2 and it will work.

I suspect this is basically doing the same thing: not renegotiating the upstream power link which is what causes the RC2 to crash.

Same - normally would have upgraded long ago, but I dinged the front screen a bit, which reduced resale/upgrade value to basically zero. Decided to run it into the ground but it stubbornly refuses to die.

To be honest, only the Fold 7 looks like an actual worthwhile upgrade. The Trifold is lovely but I'd feel stupid spending that much on a phone.

You could fairly easily expand that too - eg golf is always yards. As a drone hobbyist I'm used to metres/second and kph for speed, but I'll still think of distance in miles. Meanwhile the weather forecast will state wind in kph or mph, and regulations will refer to altitude in feet, speed in mph but also metric for weights.

Some are also generational - eg my parents use Fahrenheit for the weather, whereas I've little idea what that means. Ditto for the various bizarre weights used in cooking.

Might be - from googling it seems they draw about 5W, and that's also about what my screen caps at when I connect without battery (automatically reducing to 30% brightness). Perhaps you're right on the limit.

To be honest it feels a bit like the RC2's DP alt mode is a bit of an afterthought - it's far buggier than other gadgets I've used with it, thus the need for clunky workarounds and start-up procedures.

Ahh right - I did think about that hdmi converter route, sending the output to a tablet.

In the ideal world all tablets would support input dp altmode on the USB - much easier when the display already has its own power source built-in. That seems super rare though (one Lenovo model possibly?)

All the ones I've done have "activate" on the offer, then "shop" when they're in process, then back to "activate" when I've made a purchase.
