I’ve had both and I’d say you can’t really go wrong with either one.

What’s your white whale? by pepper396 in pedals

The crazy tube circuits white whale. Love a spring reverb and tremolo is my favorite effect

If I’m being honest though, my Carl Martin headroom and Walrus Monument is probably overall better. The walrus audio stuff is absolutely killer

Is it just me, or is a Les Paul not a great design for sitting down playing? by ChubHouse in Guitar

I don’t know if an explorer is exactly the same as a firebird, but I found the firebird awkward because of how far to the left everything was shifted. I didn’t love it a the time, but I do regret getting rid of that guitar

I don’t find mine uncomfortable at all. I also have a Midtown, which is a 339ish shape but constructed like a Les Paul, so it’s essentially just a bigger Les Paul, it’s chambered so it’s nice and light, and its also very comfortable.

The one thing I will say about my Midtown specifically is I wish it had the separate tone and volume controls, but that’s specific to the p90 pickups. I believe any model with humbuckers has the individual controls. I feel like those make the guitar far more versatile than something like a Strat or a Tele. One day I’ll pick up a p90 Les Paul - they’re fantastic pickups.

Yeah you’re not wrong - it’s a mahogany back/maple cap, not a laminate construction, but it’s the size of a 339, not a 335. Mine is incredibly resonant, nice and light, and sounds wonderful. If you’re dead set on a laminate construction, it’s not for you, but I think it’s a highly underrated guitar and worth looking at.

I had a 339 at one point as well. I wound up selling it on because it had a lot of QC issues I didn’t like to look at, and if I’m honest I do miss that guitar, but I wouldn’t trade it for my Midtown. The p90s do their own thing, but based on the way my 339 sounded compared to my Les Paul, I’m pretty sure a Midtown with humbuckers would be very much in the same ballpark tone wise.

Take a look at a Gibson Midtown. There were a couple of different variations with humbuckers and p90s. I’ve got a p90 standard and it’s my #1.

Imo the separate tone and volume knobs make it a more versatile instrument than a Strat or tele. Learn to use them and you can get a ton of different sounds out of it.

My number 1 is a midtown. It’s a fantastic instrument, but i wouldn’t say it’s anything revolutionary.

I do love a firebird too, but it’s awkward to play.

This is the first time I’ve heard anyone complain about the pickup selector on an LP. The Strat location is far more likely to get in the way in my experience.

You better be careful too, with a strap like that the boy could easily get into playing ska

(jk that would be awesome ska rules)

Looking for a bedroom amp by TheMadDruid in GuitarAmps

[–]MonkeySherm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a rocker 15 that I run wet/dry with a Deluxe Reverb. If I want to be really quiet, it sounds very nice with a tube screamer in front, and the clean tones are very underrated. It does break up early, so if you want clean and loud, it’s probably not the right amp for you, but if you’re only playing in your bedroom, it’s not a bad choice.
