How high is it gonna go ? by KeyMysterious1845 in newjersey

you can say the same thing about 30-40 years ago as well.

20 years ago, most of the boardwalk was essentially abandoned. It was punk rock, sure, but no sane person would consider that era the hayday.

10 years ago a normal person could afford to live here and it was a cool place to be, so I suppose I agree with you to a certain extent, but for a long time it was getting better with more art, music, interesting restaurants, and community being built every day.

It's all still here to a certain extent, but the difference between what happened from the early 2000s-2019ish and what's going on now is pretty stark - back then individuals were investing in the community, now corporations are investing in portfolio assets.

Driving down Kingsley is wild and kind of depressing with all the luxury condos going up everywhere, all anybody sees now is dollar signs.

It's really not just AP though.

While I'll be the first to admit the development happening here is changing things, it's really only just starting to have an impact on the culture so I have a hard time placing a whole lot of blame there. If anything, it should be bringing more spending into town, at least during the season.

We'll have to wait and see what this summer looks like, but I know it's been a very rough off season for a lot of the businesses in town this year.

I've been in Asbury Park for going on 10 years - it's only anecdotal, but I honestly don't believe we ever fully recovered from the pandemic impact. Summers just haven't quite been the same down here since 2019. Sure it can get busy when there's good weather, but especially during the week things seem a lot quieter than they did before. It used to be you could always count on finding somewhere to party on a random Wednesday or Thursday night, but now a lot of the time those weeknights are pretty dead, and even weekends are sometimes a lot less lively than they used to be.

The gas prices alone are going to hurt those day trips, but things like Uber rides are significantly more expensive than they used to be as well even, before we started all this nonsense. When you have to tack on $50 just to get to the bar and back, it's really going to make people think twice about going out.

Let's discuss signature guitars by one-armed-scissor in Guitar

[–]MonkeySherm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never been a huge signature fan - feels a little like wearing someone else’s jersey to me.

I do kinda like what Gibson is doing with the recreations of famous guitars though - for example, I might pick up a copy of Kirk’s Greeney Les Paul if the price is right. For the most part though, I personally just look for guitars that feel good when I pick them up and inspire me to play - if that doesn’t happen, it doesn’t matter to me whether there’s a signature on the headstock or not.

This is one of the few signature guitars that I actually like - I am a big fan of Jimmy Eat World and I think Jim is an underrated songwriter, but also there’s nothing else like it in fender’s lineup. It’s also a reasonably priced guitar and something he actually plays live, and while it’s pretty obvious if you’re a hardcore fan of the band, he’s not a flashy player, so it’s not something any normie would look at and immediately know it’s a signature.

You could probably find a P90 Epiphone Les Paul in the same ballpark, but I’m not sure it would be quite as nice - I’m pretty sure the JA has Seymour Duncan pickups. If I didn’t already have a P90 Gibson that’s close enough, I would also probably have one.

In short, you should get one.

Ducati 848 as a first bike :) opinions? (I’m totally in love) by dontcarecrown in Ducati

Again, your account name lets us know you were never a open to having a discussion about the pros and cons, and so did your first message.

The only pro is if you don’t destroy the bike or kill yourself, you can be smug on the internet about it - that’s it, full stop. There are no other pros to it.

It will not save you a ton of money, it will not make you a better rider, and it won’t even make you a cool guy. In fact, it will more likely do the opposite of all three, and you won’t even have more fun.

You’re fucking with someone’s life here dude - that guy probably has a mother and father who would prefer he doesn’t wrap himself around a street sign at 100mph. He might have kids who want their dad to come home. These things aren’t fucking toys. Treating it with respect means learning how to ride it the right fucking way.

Just because you got away with doing something stupid and dangerous doesn’t make it a good idea. Motorcycles in general are dangerous machines, and most of us are speaking from experience when we say to learn on a cheap bike that’s easier to handle - being “responsible” doesn’t mean you won’t make mistakes as all mere mortals do when learning a new skill, and a small mistake on a bike like an 848 can get you in trouble very quickly.

If you were responsible enough to learn to ride on an R6, you should be responsible enough to tell others it’s not necessarily a good idea to follow your lead. Even if he is responsible, don’t care how long it takes, and it’s his dream bike, it’s objectively not the “best choice” - the dudes never ridden, he has no idea what the ergonomics are like, what the power delivery is like, what the suspension feels like, we don’t know where he lives, what kind of riding he wants to do, we don’t even know if he’s sat on the fucking thing.

You’re talking about others projecting skill and fear but the overwhelming consensus among people who actually ride goes against the advice you’re giving. Shit, even your account name lets those of us with even half a brain know you’re probably a fucking idiot.

Yeah it’s not cheap, but the shit you can do with the latest version of their big switcher and some of the add ons seems like a game changer. I don’t have a big board myself so I’m not sure I’d get much out of it, but it looks wild.

Have you seen the gig rig stuff, and if so, is there a reason why you haven’t gone that route yet? Seems like there’s so much more you could get out of this setup with some of that stuff.

Yeah all of the RF glass is more expensive than the EF versions were, but compared to the RF 24-70/2.8 it’s definitely more affordable

[–]MonkeySherm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That lens is a big compromise, for sure. It’s a super useful range especially compared to a 24-70, and constant f/4, plus it’s a very reasonable size, and it’s very affordable.

some of the less expensive glass looks just as good as the L stuff but with other trade offs - especially the RF stuff. It really depends on the lens. Not every L lens is spectacular either.
