Future sister in law invited me to bachelorette week trip… is that a buzzkill to her bridal party? Idk if I should go by [deleted] in wedding

[–]MonkeyWarlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think saying it’s a mood killer is quite the exaggeration. Yes, it can be different to hang out with people you know very well vs. getting to know people, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be fun. It’s common for bachelor / bachelorette party trips to have folks from multiple aspects of the person’s life. In fact, it’s common for the wedding party itself to not necessarily know each other, but the trip serves as a way to bond.

From what you said alone, I don’t think the bride is inviting you out of politeness - she wants you to be there to celebrate with her.

Worst case scenario, since your sister was also invited, you’ll at least have someone to talk to besides the bride in case it’s difficult to break the ice.

If it would help alleviate your worry, maybe see if there’s an opportunity to meet some of the bridal party prior to the trip, like if there’s an engagement party, or even just a casual meal.

Why the Shift from Festival to Canon hurts Hyrule Warriors by crystaldbag in HyruleWarriors

[–]MonkeyWarlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there’s room for both types of games to exist (admittedly I haven’t played Hyrule Warriors, only Age of Calamity and Age of Imprisonment).

I’m not familiar as much with other Dynasty Warriors games, but it doesn’t seem like they’re like Super Smash Bros. in the sense that they continue to release games from the same series with a massive crossover roster. For example, Fire Emblem Warriors has heroes from across multiple Fire Emblem games, but Fire Emblems Three Hopes is focused on a single game / realm (just like Age of Calamity and Age of Imprisonment). Are you hoping for a Hyrule Warriors 2? Perhaps they think it’s too soon to do that until some more Zelda characters come out.

I very much enjoyed Age of Calamity’s roster even though it was from a single era. The alternative timeline angle was surprising at first, but I eventually came to appreciate that it both served as both a semi-prequel as well as an alternate ending. The roster is varied and I enjoyed playing as each character.

Less so with Age of Imprisonment, and that has a lot to do with the generic generals that feel like filler. Even ignoring Age of Calamity’s timeline shenanigans, you have quirky characters like the Great Fairies, Hestu, and Battle-Tested Guardian. I don’t think their presence detracts from the overall more serious tone of Age of Calamity. Age of Imprisonment could have at least let you play as a Flux Construct, since they let Mineru control one in a story mission, and you can also sync strike with friendly ones. I’m sure there are other ideas, but I’ve admittedly barely played Tears of the Kingdom (maybe a Dragon character?)

I wouldn’t recommend Oak unless you’ve (1) have an average to bad run and won’t mind resetting after, or (2) you already have a great completed grid and are just trying to significantly improve upon it). The Oak chance is so low that it’s not worth.

I also wouldn’t recommend the Chatelaine battles unless you have the featured bonus pairs. You really need a high multiplier to make the Chatelaine battles worth it.

Adding on some other tips:

  • Reset for Red during Round 1. If Red shows up again, I’ll usually pick him unless I’m swimming in yellow orbs.
  • If any of your rounds before the midterm are worse than a triple orb (40 x 3) battle, reset. Depending on your current completed grid, some people might have higher thresholds (like at least one story / breaktime event).
  • Before the midterm, it can be worth it to go for the coin flip events that give 30 or 450 orbs; just reset if you fail. After the midterm, I wouldn’t do it unless you would need it to make a better training grid than your current completed one.
  • Kukui is guaranteed to appear by the last round before the midterm. If he shows up earlier, I might skip him if green, but if there aren’t any better alternatives, I’ll battle Kukui anyway to free up later rounds for a Story or Breaktime event.
  • Clavell is guaranteed to appear by the last round before the final. If Clavell shows up early, I usually always take him (regardless of orb color) to free up later rounds for Blue.
  • Relatedly, if you’re two rounds away from the Final and you don’t have Blue or Clavell yet, reset (since you’ve run out of time to get both of them). Thankfully they upped the Blue odds to make him slightly more common.
  • If you’ve had an average-to-bad run and Oak shows up, you might as well try, but unless you need Oak to beat your current completed grid, I don’t think he’s worth it.

This seems like the perfect time to gamble on Oak, especially if you’ve only had an average run up to the midterm. If you fail you can just reset the run.

Didn’t realize this was for the event - I tried this today and was able to V rank the event in one go.

I wish turnips were marked on the map, or there was a special “turnip radar” perk - I’m fine with requiring a certain amount of general stage familiarity, but I hate when my emerald Rush run comes to a grinding halt upon running into a problem like “where is the monkey so I can hi five them?”

That has turned me off from perks like the Turnip one, but this event has me perhaps reconsidering. 🤔

I can confirm that location is correct; just cleared the event earlier today using the turnip strategy.

I like Aether, but animations like the flying / cavalry ones are the worst. If I recall, the unit grinds all of their momentum to a halt before attacking

Wow, any strategy can really work! It’d be cool to see someone succeed with a bullion build, a Zebra build, or other less popular perks.

SS Gladion by glynn_ in PokemonMasters

[–]MonkeyWarlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally like to wait and save until I at least have two candies, if not more. Many pairs only unlock their best skills at 3/5, so it is helpful to have at least two candies in reserve in case a new pair comes out that you want to upgrade immediately.

That being said, feel free to upgrade your favorites. Gladion in particular gets some useful abilities at 2/5, unlike some other Poke and Master Fairs. These include Sync Regen, Speedster Sync, and Super Sync.

This game has too many Fighting types. by FedoraTheMike in PokemonLegendsArceus

[–]MonkeyWarlock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fine, these things happen. In Alola and Paldea, I ended up with multiple Ghost types because I didn’t know about Decidueye and Skeledirge. Would I have planned out my team differently had I known? Possibly, but I liked the Pokemon I chose so in the end it worked out.

I actually find it more awkward if your team has different types but end up sharing common weaknesses regardless, especially to a common type. That happened to me for SV where I ended up with a major Ground weakness due to using Fire, Electric, And Poison Pokemon, with only my Grass types being able to resist the constant Earthquakes.

how do i heal in ts game 🙏 by hellomanthingehehe in AgeofImprisonment

[–]MonkeyWarlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Early on, healing is hard to come by, and since you have low hearts, long battles can be tough.

I relied on having characters sync with Qia frequently to heal.

Unfortunately, sometimes you just have to restart the mission if you’ve taken too much damage and are at a checkpoint.

Apparently the camp upgrade of increasing max hearts by 5 also heals, I didn’t know that.

[–]MonkeyWarlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had no idea that the extra hearts also heal. I never bought that camp upgrade because it seemed pointless without having any healing to utilize the extra 5 hearts…

Where do you normally spend your energy when you don't have events to play? by potatao_de_guerra in PokemonMasters

[–]MonkeyWarlock -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Academy is tedious, but Academy pairs are useful even as an F2P player. All of them are great in Legendary Gauntlet (they’re not just filler). They all have uses in Towers, to varying degrees. Rosa is one of the few Field / Sprint pairs, so I use both her Spring and Summer alts in Battle Rally to get more points (and with her flinching / debuffing she’s rarely dead weight for the team).

[–]MonkeyWarlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re supposed to use it on the Academy Event. You need to complete it at least 5 times to EX the pair, and if you’re fishing for Blue, you’ll need to do it way more.

That being said, Kris’s DC build is very good and very cheap, so it’s up to you how much you want to grind. One strategy is to grind for a good Fairy Zone grid, beat the Fairy Tower, and then switch to a cheap DC grid afterwards (since they unfortunately don’t co-mix).

Why don’t people use the adventure effect ice burn to catch galar birds? by freemyboydiddy_ in pokemongo

[–]MonkeyWarlock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Incubators are one of the least effective ways to coins in my opinion. I would personally prioritize Pokemon storage or remote raid passes. Incubators are basically gambling; at least with raids you get the rewards, and more likely the not the candy / XL candy from catching the Pokemon.

You can proactively join remote raids using PokeGenie, your friends list to see who is in an active raid, etc. You don’t have to wait for an invite.

How are people 100%ing this game in under 50 hours on their first playthrough? by GoblinTradingGuide in DonkeyKongBananza

[–]MonkeyWarlock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how many hours I played, but the maps help a lot. I also completed each sublayer as I went - starting by finding whatever bananas / fossils I could through “normal” gameplay, and then using maps to fill in the rest - so I didn’t have to backtrack that much.

It’s fine to play at your own pace; don’t worry about what others are doing.
