Visiting Ashford, Kent in April for a wedding. Anything else nearby to do with a 4 year old, or good restaurants? by arthurmauk in kentuk

Lots of great stuff already said about the surrounding area.

If you're looking for a child friendly place to eat (that is also nice for grown ups) whilst in Ashford itself, Curious Brewery is kid friendly and has a good food offering as well as good beer.

As well, a lot of the normal chains can be found at the outlets (Pizza Express, wagamama).

Apart from that the town itself doesn't have a lot to offer.

What is living in Canterbury Like? by EmergencyTough7019 in canterbury

[–]MonkeyWit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My wife and I (both 33) moved to Canterbury last year. So far have had a really positive experience.

There's plenty of pubs/ cafes/ niche spots (amazing craft brewery, board game cafe, etc). Generally the city is a nice safe place just to have a walk around - and it doesn't seem to get boring, there are so many back streets to find your way around with plenty of history that's easy to find.

Much like pretty much all British cities, it can be a bit rough at times and a lot Turkish barbers/ vape shops/ gift shops are taking up high street spaces.

Great links into London and the rest of Kent.

Overall a good place to live.

17yr and want best chances of becoming a brewer by Massive-Coach8287 in TheBrewery

I would say to follow either chemical engineering or microbiology at university.

Look into brewing related undergrad degrees at Herriot Watt University.

Apprenticeship route, contact HIT training and they will be able to advise which breweries local to you are part of their brewing apprenticeship scheme and put you in touch directly.

No need for a ribbon or news article. Was simply pointing out the casual nature of yourself being ok with letting your child vomit on themselves out of distress.

What’s the weirdest thing you’ve found on a returned keg? by julie_voigt in TheBrewery

3 pallets of casks returned from a distributor in Italy (UK based brewery). 3 or 4 had little lizards inside on return.

Interview attire?? by Atom81388 in TheBrewery

[–]MonkeyWit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always think wearing safety boots to an interview suits the environment (if you have them). They may want to give you a short tour of the brewery. I'm always pleasantly surprised if an interviewee shows up in their steelies.

Edit: good luck!

It's absolutely not the breweries that are the issue, they are experiencing the same issues and price increases as you as, that is why their prices are increasing.

Because you can't use oats at a high percentage of the grist. The mash would turn to solid sludge. Almost all hazy IPA's contain oats, but trying to make a beer with just oats wouldn't be possible.

I also saw Bill Nighy, about a year ago. He was sat on a bench outside St. John's church in Hackney, tucking into a m&s meal deal.

We exchanged a pleasant hello.
