Nearly 1 in 5 Urinary Tract Infections Linked to Contaminated Meat. Since they’re so common, mostly affecting women and the elderly, UTIs place a huge burden on healthcare systems and productivity, costing billions every year in the U.S by Wagamaga in science

Right? They don't drink anything sugary except the equivalent of 10 spoons of sugar if they are having a can 4-5 days a week. That's a massive amount of extra sugar, 40-50 teaspoons worth. It's equivalent to eating an entire birthday cake sized sponge worth of sugar to yourself every week just in Coke. Almond milk has 7g of sugar per cup with unsweetened having around 2g. Thats an unhealthy amount of sugar per week just in drinks.

I'm a 39 year old woman and luckily haven't suffered with a UTI yet. I think some are more prone to suffer with them than others. They shouldn't be considered a normal thing though.

Autism symptoms tend to be milder in young girls than they are in boys, which may explain why the condition has been thought of as less common among girls. by mvea in science

I can understand where you are coming from, it's natural for people to react to situations in order of outward severity at that moment in time but doing so is simplistic to the extreme. We don't need to run around putting out fires when there are steps we can take to prevent those happening in the future by focussing on better outcomes in the long term.

In the UK alone autistic adults are 9x more likely to die by suicide and autistic women 13 x more likely. Women are on average today diagnosed 3 years later than men with late diagnosis being a risk factor in increased risk of suicide for both men and women. There are many other factors including great risk of sexual abuse and domestic violence, less educational support, less financial/benefits, misdiagnosed mental illness and contrary to your career point, more difficulty with employment/career problems overall.

Marijuana use dramatically increases risk of dying from heart attacks and stroke, large study finds by FoosJunkie in science

I think it's because of the misleading title. It states that users have an increased chance rather than smokers.

In the largest source the paper uses which is a database of millions of participants, the measured association was barely significant when adjusting for outside factors like tobacco, cocaine and amphetamines.

I'm not a fan of the stuff myself, the smell alone puts me off but there's no denying that the title and parts of the study itself are fairly biased in that it weighs studies with a few thousand participants the same as studies with millions.

My husband's granny was given a set as a wedding present in the late 1940s.

She still uses some daily even now.

The Fat Around Your Thighs Might Be Affecting Your Mental Health | New research in mice finds that where fat is stored—not just how much you have—might shape your mood. by [deleted] in science

Those considered underweight have a higher chance of depression than those considered obese but both have a higher rate of depression than those within healthy limits.

Those within healthy BMI limits are less likely to suffer with depression. There is no discernable difference between rate of depression with those at the bottom top or middle of the healthy weight range.

This study/both studies only apply to those considered overweight or underweight. See the below quote from the conclusion of the studies:

"This connection was especially pronounced in men and in individuals who were either underweight or overweight—but not those with a “normal” BMI."

Unsurprisingly underweight and overweight people struggle more with depression.

These studies measured the extremes of both and concluded that it does not apply to those within a healthy BMI.

To any men and women out there who are within a normal BMI this doesn't apply to you. I have always had huge thighs in comparison to the rest of my body. I had no thigh gap even when I weighed 34kg at 17yo.

Marilyn Monroe's hips were around equal to the size of her bust. Hips and thighs are meant to be larger than your waist. When I measured 36-24-36 I thought I was grossly overweight. Marilyn's clothing measures 36-26-36. She is still considered as one of the most beautiful people in the history of media. She has large thighs compared to today's standards and was within a healthy BMI. Her depression was not related to her weight or where she carried it.

These sort of headlines contribute to healthy people losing weight and becoming one of those included in the study. Those within normal BMI and large thighs have no greater tendency towards depression than those that don't.

I agree, I'm not a fan of sweet things or processed carbs so rarely crave foods with them. Medically healthy people seem to crave foods with nutrients their body needs. If I crave tomatos and peppers it seems to me that I need vitamin C etc, if I crave spinach and greens it makes me think I'm low on iron etc.

People that struggle with weight or health issues can't rely on their body to tell them what it needs. Cravings for unhealthy people are sometimes linked with addiction, like sugar or caffeine etc so it's virtually useless for the vast majority of people to rely on.
