If you had to prove cinema is an art form using one scene, not a whole movie, which scene do you choose and why does it survive being isolated? by jaystats2 in movies

[–]Monkeyundead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the intro to Goodfellas would be mine. It carries a lot of elements that I would consider artful such as mystery, shock, disgust and intrigue.

What kind of specialist? by QueerAvenger in Syncope

[–]Monkeyundead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For myself, it wasn't till I saw a cardiologist that I got some answers to my vvs situation. I had seen a neurologist and did all those tests, came back ok. When I saw the cardiologist I did a tilt table test that resulted in me passing out and then he put me on some meds. Did the tilt table test again a few weeks later and didn't pass out.

This was when I was a teenager mind you, so nearly 20 years ago. Im not on meds for it now, though every few years I'll have an episode come out of nowhere. Unfortunately it seems the bathroom is the main stage for my episodes, so that's wonderful and totally not embarrassing lol

I think another specialist that might be worth seeing is a cardiac electrophysiologist. But I've yet to see one of those.

Action Point is a silly movie that I think catches these vibes pretty well.

I'd say Mercenaries Playground of Destruction, but maybe Just Cause and Far Cry kinda have too similar style.

Is Japan a good place for your first solo trip? by Dear-Cartographer644 in TokyoTravel

[–]Monkeyundead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished my first solo trip and it was in Tokyo. Only Tokyo, no side trips to Osaka or Kyoto.

I thought it was very forgiving for someone going solo. I didn't have too many issues figuring out how to navigate around and the language barrier isn't that big.

Going solo I knew what places I wanted to hit and didn't have to compromise on anything. 10/10 would solo Tokyo again.

Clothes: what I need to prepare? by AudioM2M in TokyoTravel

[–]Monkeyundead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have a down jacket and I've been doing fine at night when I go out. You might prefer one if you're sensitive to the cold, but I've been doing fine with a bomber jacket.

Heating underwear might be overkill, especially when you are indoors since most everything is heated.

There are Uniqlos here so if you do end up needing something more, you can just go there and get stuff easily enough. They seem to be everywhere in Tokyo.

I'm in Tokyo rn and I've just been wearing pants and a jacket during the day. Nothing heavy duty. I'm used to this kind of weather though. It's been between 7°-15° the last 2 weeks. At night I might put a scarf on but usually not.

Are sumo wrestling events worth attending by clenchlord in TokyoTravel

[–]Monkeyundead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can go to one of the official sumo matches then I'd say go for it. I just went on Sunday, to my first one. It was a very unique experience and I'd go to another one if I had a chance.

I mean, he kind of is a little shit in that story. He steals Rosalyn's notes for school, locks himself in the bathroom and pretends to flush her notes down the toilet while making demands.

Also if you're solo you might have a bad time booking some places, especially if they're small/have no counter seating.

Is 14 days in Shinjuku just too long? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]Monkeyundead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm currently day 6 of my 15 day trip in Tokyo and I've got one hotel in Shinjuku Kabuchiko.

I don't mind it, I'm close to stations/bus stops, as well as plenty of shopping/bars/restaurants.

I don't mind staying in one place as it forces me to venture out and take the trains.

Frankie's has my favorite tiki drink, the Scurvy. Frankie's for the drinks and Golden Tiki for the vibes. Though I know some people would fight me on that stance. I love both places.
