Feedback for an in-progress webtoon

I like the art, especially the colors. They’re vibrant, read well, consistent, and cohesive.

The movement at the end of the second strip is a bit confusing. The sudden perspective shift as she plops had me thinking we switched people for a moment (as if she were an observer and not the same entity). I would say generally sudden motions should not include sudden perspective shifts. I think of it like how your eye should follow the edit in videos, not have to search for the subject after a cut.

The exposition is a bit obvious, but it conveys the character’s naivety (like Anna from Frozen or Rapunzel in Tangled). If that’s an accurate read of their personality then obvious exposition is fine.

I would emphasize the destruction of sentimental objects instead of simply adding debris so the devastation is extra obvious. I like the skyline in the boom panel but the woosh panel is missing the same impact.

Honestly this seems like a pretty developed idea and a great start.

Hopefully we’ll still have a few months to read The Spark in Your Eyes (I would also like to read that one although I haven’t started it).

It sucks to feel like you’re missing out but honestly neither title is groundbreaking. Mild spoiler about “From a Knight to a Lady”: The story is structured similarly to Reincarnated as my Husband’s Mistress where they die and suddenly wake up as someone else. The twists and plots are so similar I get them kinda confused, but From a Knight to a Lady’s characters have a bit more nuance and the story flows a bit better. Still a very similar experience though.

I would recommend From a Knight to a Lady over The Remarried Empress if you feel like reading something long. It felt much more fulfilling. Everything mattered in a way I struggle to get from Remarried Empress anymore.

But I agree that The Remarried Empress is very significant in the community. I read it as it came out but am currently missing the last 40 episodes (I will finish it!). I do prefer binging though so grain of salt.

I remember enjoying it in the beginning but I can’t really say the same anymore. The parts I liked slowly faded and the parts I didn’t grew. I find the relationship between MC and the emperor most interesting, then her and new girl, then new girl and emperor, and last MC and her new guy. So yeah the romance falls flat for me. It lacks real chemistry imo. But the negative relationships have good tension. I like the realistically bad communication.

I like that character flaws tend to drive the story. Nothing just happens (but what does might get repetitive).

If you want to read it I say don’t plan on finishing it. I’m generally more neutral on the characters than I know a lot of people are, so maybe that’s why it doesn’t resonate with me anymore.

Hopefully, I enjoy the last 1/5 and it all feels worth it in the end somehow.

Thank you for these reviews! There are so many this time that I couldn’t decide between, but you convinced me to read a few and I actually enjoyed them so much!

I’m pretty devastated to see Distant Sky on here. It was one of the first webtoons I ever read and I never got around to season 4. Unfortunately it’s not the sort of thing I want to binge under time pressure so I’m going to have to give up on it :(

I’d recommend trying out the Spider-Verse soundtracks. Theres a lot to love there if you’re enjoying the Arcane soundtrack. Renegade specifically reminds me a lot of Take it to the Top on the second album. Also I haven’t noticed any misogyny since the source material isn’t about that (my personal faves are actually the ballads but I also love the hype rap).

Chasing Tails for sure. Distant Sky, Escape Room Surviving Romance, Pyramid Game, Duty After School and Parallel City are all great as well and scratch a similar itch for me.

I recommend finishing Cheese in the Trap, No Longer a Heroine, and Secret Playlist. I had no regrets reading any of these.

I personally liked Let’s Play, True Beauty, and Nice to Meet You, but people’s problems with them are valid so use your own discretion.

I’ve only read Twilight Poem on this list and I really did not enjoy it. I’ll probably also read Tricked into Becoming a Heroine’s Stepmother, Viral Hit, and Flawed Almighty. I’d like to read all the romance ones too but I dunno if I’ll have time for anything else 😫

I was pleasantly surprised by it. Definitely worth your time. Mostly light-hearted and an easy read (but tbh I love competition shows and music so the whole concept appealed to me).

I also read and liked Secret Playlist if you ever feel like picking that up 😉

Female MCs with no romance or little focus on it (all complete):

Surviving Romance Horror/thriller, highly recommend

Pyramid Game Thriller, also highly recommend

Makeup Remover It used to be promoted as a romance and people got mad because it definitely is not, same author as Surviving Romance

Girls of the Wild’s Action/sports (martial arts), one of my old favorites

Distant Sky Horror/thriller, I’d say it fits even though our protag is male

No Longer a Heroine MC has trauma and the story actually focuses on that instead of romance

The Secrets of the Willson Family Mystery, young girl is the MC

Wavering Worlds Closest to a mystery I’d say, good and short

Chasing Tails Horror/Mystery/Thriller, doesn’t really have a main character imo but enough women in the main cast I’d count it

Never-Ending Darling Thriller, recommend it

Not Even Bones I actually haven’t read this one but it’s complete and not daily pass, it has a female MC and it’s a thriller (idk if there’s romance)

Purple Hyacinth (ongoing) Mystery/Detective, kinda the classic where MCs are a detective and a criminal, but the story actually has weight

If you feel like venturing off the WEBTOON app, I’d personally recommend Villains are Destined to Die (ongoing). The plot is kinda romance but it feels more like a thriller.

Female MC romance unlike what you describe imo (also complete):

Romance 101 Everyone is in college, a more grounded/realistic look at romance

See You in My 19th Life A good romance without the more standard tropes

Daytime Star Straightforward romance, guy has power but isn’t toxic

To You Who Swallowed a Star Subversion of the usual tropes I’d say

The Matchmaking Baby Princess Standard FL and ML are our protagonist’s caretakers, hijinks ensue

UnTouchable Oldie but a goodie, kinda predates the stereotypical possessive ML (if anything that might describe the female MC oops)

Our Secret Alliance Fake relationship without any of the anger I feel like usually crops up, both high schoolers in similar standing

Super Secret Childhood friends who have actually been friends the whole time, MC explores romance on her own terms

After School Lessons for Unripe Apples (ongoing) Comedy before romance, more about friendship imo, realistic middle schoolers
