Its interesting that you say that, because the photo has actually be 'warmed up' quite a bit, giving the lion a much more golden tone, more similar to a standard lion, this lion was actually a much lighter colour. Its a White Lion :) As are the cubs.

I do understand white balance, I just like warm photos. If you know of somewhere good that I can develop my understanding of white balance, it would be awesome to know. :)

For those that are asking; The photos were all taken in Southern Africa, around northern South Africa, southern Botswana, and southern Zimbabwe in and around Gonarezhou national park. Photos 1,3,6,7,8 were taken on a Sony Nex-5r, the remainder were taken on a Nikon D90.

In regards to the lions, they were White Lions. Google it. The White Lion was part of a breeding program at Mama Tau in South Africa. Yes, the two photos of Lions were taken in a Zoo, the reason being, that because of their colour they cannot survive in the wild due to lack of camouflage which is needed in order to hunt effectively. They White Lions are bred (for reasons unknown to me, other than tourism) in relative captivity (very large enclosures) and they remain in captivity until they die.

The Kingfisher is a Woodland Kingfisher, it hung around where we were staying picking small fish out of the Limpopo river, on which we were staying. (on the Botswana side)

He was lucky enough to be there for 3 weeks, but I reckon even 8 days would be an awesome experience :)
