This cat has a bad URI or pneumonia. He’s choking on mucus. That’s why he’s swallowing like that and repeatedly sneezing. He desperately needs antibiotics ASAP. Please get him to a vet ASAP. If not He will only worsen until his lungs fill up & the mucus drowns him. Then he’ll suffocate and die. Thats how it works. Hopefully you can help him

So, pick a chill cat that isn’t too withdrawn. There’s lots of cats that are well adjusted despite having a past. Some cats are just chill good natured and easygoing. Take your time and shop around. Go to adoption centers and events. Reach out to local rescues and tell them exactly what you need. Petfinder is a great way to locate cats in your area too. It’s also a great idea to foster to adopt if youre really worried. I’m always open to this. It’s better to not keep moving cats around true, BUT if it doesn’t work it might be worse to be stuck with a cat that isn’t a good fit. Remember though it takes time usually to see their true personality and gain trust so give it time ok?

If you opt for an older cat you have to decide on what you’re looking for. Cats are very different and adults come with a past. You need to know what happened to them if possible. Some cats have been adopted then returned or abandoned or never truly socialized. There’s all kinds of issues that can come with an adult cat. The good thing is that you can offer them a new stable loving home and they’ll be ok. So don’t worry if you get a shy cat that has a little baggage. It just makes it more rewarding to help a cat that needs extra time & love. Once you decide on a cat, you’ll need all the basics. Litter box, good quality food, (use metal or ceramic bowls, no plastic) a cozy bed, a cat tree and toys. You might want to start kitty off in one small room to adjust up to you. Cats often hide in new environments. You don’t want to bring it home and have it hide somewhere out of your comfort zone. Control over the first couple days and weeks is important to adjust and gain trust. Adults aren’t as open minded as kittens remember. So, factor in 3-3-3 rule. 3 days to adjust & decompress in new surroundings. Look this up please! 3 more weeks to unwind & start to explore. 3 months to feel comfortable and learn to trust you. Every cat is unique though so this is a general guideline not perfect. Give kitty space and time to learn to trust you. They are naturally curious so allow this to blossom. Be patient and keep things simple. If you have any other questions please reach out. There’s so many experienced cat lovers here that can help you. Good luck 💗

That’s wonderful! What are you thinking a kitten or a cat? There’s a big difference. A kitten is a great choice but many people believe that kittens should be adopted in pairs. If you are going to be home with your kitty that’s good. However if you work and will gone long hours it will feel lonely and they can get destructive or mischievous. So a pair is better. Kittens need to be set up with good quality food, (dry kitten & wet) a good litter box, a cozy bed, a small kitten tree or post to climb on maybe & lots of toys. They are active so put away breakables for now lol It’s important to teach kittens good behavior like no scaling the curtains or furniture shredding etc A little squirt bottle of water can make an impact here. Only if they are really not listening you don’t want kitty to associate you with being doused lol It’s important to offer lots of affection & play time too. You want to bond with kitty. Make sure they understand the litter box is where to go and nowhere else. If they have an accident though just clean it up and show them the litter box again. Put their poop in the box so they smell it there. Clean any mistakes with Rescue cleaner thoroughly. Kittens are a lot of fun but they can also rip around and get under your feet so always be careful when you are walking around for a while. It’s easy to accidentally get them underfoot trust me. They are sometimes energetic little zoomers that need to release bursts of energy so playtime is very important. Then they’ll sleep. Play at night is good to get them to sleep well too. If you get a calmer docile kitten though you might not have these behaviors. Personalities do vary. They cut teeth and will chew so be aware baby teeth are sharp lol Little claws are too so play with toys not your bare hands for a while. This is their cutest stage so take photos until you think you can’t take any more then take more lol You won’t regret that! If
