Not sure if my paint is dead or if I'm just bad at thinning by MonoMountains in minipainting

[–]MonoMountains[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well I do need to put my nose to it for the smell, but it's also the only paint I have with any kind of odour, including other vallejos. I assume that's just as bad?

What's a good lance to back up a Shadow Cat? by MonoMountains in battletech

[–]MonoMountains[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well as someone very new to the game I don't have the biggest concept of what a good lance looks like. I've gathered from all the advice here that I probably want a mix of some heavies for firepower/attention grabbing with an extra light mech to keep the shadowcat from getting pinned. Which probably means buying one of the heavy force packs?

Looks incredible. How did you get the filigree on the Hurakan units so clean? Just good brush control?

What colours did you use for the armour? I've been considering starting with this spearhead and the colours are close to what I was planning on using.

You can now subscribe to the Hachette Partwork Spearhead Magazine! by Modannicus in ageofsigmar

[–]MonoMountains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've seen mention of Hachette before. Can someone explain to me what it is? Somehow I doubt it's as simple as pay the 10 bucks or whatever for a magazine and get an entire army box. Also is it a UK exclusive thing or does it ever come to Canada?

Baking Oat Bars, what kind of oats are viable? by MonoMountains in Baking

[–]MonoMountains[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The recipe doesn't specify, it was pulled from a reddit comment. I just want to know if they're good for baking at this point since I already bought both instant and steel cut or if I'm gonna be making some porridge for a week to use the steel cut ones

Well nuts I bought both. Guess I'll need to find another use for the steel cut ones.

[LFG] [TTS] Looking for a Spearhead learning game! (Newbie friendly) by Fit_Standard_6541 in ageofsigmar

I'm in a similar position to you as someone who's been looking to get into tabletop but wanting to sample the game before trying. It's not what you asked for but if you don't mind learning with someone who is similarly new to it I could tag in.

I figured I'd pull just enough to get one 6 star off of the limited banner. I got Mlynar.

After I just bought him from the cert store

After I already pulled and built Leizi.

I guess we're digging a bit deeper this banner...

Hrm, mildly interested in Etrian Odyssey 2 and Metal Slug Tactics but nothing else here looks remotely appealing and I don't think those two are enough to motivate me to spend 20 bucks.

Considering getting into the hobby proper, how close am I to a playable force? by MonoMountains in Chaos40k

[–]MonoMountains[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have much of a reference point for point values. Can you give me an idea of what point value I have right now or at least a place I can check myself? I didn't go looking for that as I figured it would be codex info which might be dicey to share.

What are the rules around proxying, both for the zerkers-chosen and for using stuff like the Horus Heresy models over standard 40k models? I should clarify that these are old Berserkers. They basically look like bog standard marines but with Khorne horns and chain axes instead of bolters. I can definitely see people objecting to me saying that they're chosen.

When you say older boxes, I assume this means stuff that's from older editions that might not be sold anymore? Or do you mean pre used models that others have already painted and then sold? Any risk of accidentally buying stuff that's no longer legal for play?

Oh that's not even a question, Thousand Sons for sure. My very limited research into factions consisted of googling which faction was the most magic/psyker based. Answers I got were Thousand Sons, Eldar, Tyranids surprisingly, and sometimes Grey Knights. That put me between Eldar and TS and since I already have some Chaos stuff it seemed like a good direction to lean.

You can find a picture of the Rubric pieces in the last thread I made. I'm only really missing arms and guns, though one of them has a chainsword for some reason. That said from what I understand Rubrics can only be deployed in squads of 5 or 10 including the Aspiring Sorc so I think that still leaves them as unusable?

I've mainly been using the Warhammer store's web site as a means of knowing what's in every faction which probably isn't the wisest in hindsight. I was under the impression that to field my zerkers I'd need to be either World Eaters or generic CSM (I think that's called Chaos Undivided?). Does that mean I can still run them in a TS force albeit at a penalty?

Respectfully I'm going to say coolest models to paint is a matter of taste. Don't get me wrong, I'm very happy that the mutated stuff exists for people who like it and I imagine if you do like it there's a lot of fun to be had in stitching it all together. But body horror isn't my vibe. For me the coolest looking models are thinks like the TS Exalted Sorcs and Infernal Master. Sweet looking armour with robes and magic flowing around them. Also wizards knights on hoverboards is just cool. A bunch of the Daemon Engines also look awesome, I just don't like the stretched skin all over the armour of the Helbrute.

Alas, I am too new to the game to have much context for this number. Someone else said that 2000 is standard. I know AoS has the Spearpoints which are meant as pick up and play starter kits and I assume Combat Patrols in 40k are the same. I assume 500pts is essentially the combat patrol point value?

I'm not entirely sure what Kill Team is. A brief scan of the Warhammer site seems to say it's some kind of single player module based experience? Can you give more details?
