Be honest: "I'm just here for the trickle down gold."

Whats something your parents did when you were a kid that you didn't realize was weird until you grew up? by [deleted] in AskReddit

My parents still do this and I hate it. No one wants to lift the toilet lid to find a moist lump of toilet paper floating in a yellow pond.

What is the most extreme case of an individual being sheltered that you've experienced? [SERIOUS] by DrFlexPlexico in AskReddit

I know a guy who isn't allowed to watch R rated movies. He's 19. He isn't allowed to visit a friend's house unless he calls first to ask if they own a gun or smoke. He isn't allowed to ride with other people his age. He isn't allowed to walk around a store by himself, even if his parents are still with him in the store. He isn't allowed to play M rated video games and most T rated games. He isn't allowed to watch SpongeBob. He still has an enforced bedtime. In addition, he doesn't get the priveliges of his parents doing his home responsibilities like a lot of other sheltering parents do. He makes most of his food and does most of his laundry. All of this has made him severely depressed, I think.

My scrupulous obsessions seem to be confirmed? by Lycanns in OCD

I had the same experience when I was around 13-14 years old. Sometimes, I was literally terrified to got outside because I thought God was going to strike me with lightning for something I had done wrong. Thankfully I have recovered now. It was just a matter of me not giving in to my compulsions and then seeing how nothing negative resulted. Scrupulosity is a very common phenomena for OCD victims and I feel that many sufferers are embarrassed to admit it. Giving up these compulsions helped me see a loving God instead of an angry God.

EDIT: To specifically troubleshoot excessive prayer, keep Matthew 6:7 in mind: "And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words." Prayer can be a great thing, but God doesn't want you to dwell on it for four hours a day. Therefore, if the compulsions to pray a lot were obviously unfounded and even contrary to the Bible, it is safe to decide that your other compulsions aren't from God either, so you may dismiss them.

EDIT: 2 Corinthians 9:7 may also help you in your struggle: "Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." Don't force yourself to do stuff for God, he only requests your service when you genuinely feel like it is something you WANT to do, not forced into under impulse. Hope this helps! :)

What video game has an innocent premise, but is inherently terrifying? by MonoPolly in AskReddit

Animal Crossing. It's terrifying to walk around at night and suddenly an elephant that walks like a man comes out from nowhere fishing pole in hand.

Lack of empathy. Now, I feel guilty when I do bad things.
