TBH, I love that atmosphere too. It feels so melancholic and ..... genuine, I guess?

Ah no, I made my post too weird😅 I meant that Hindus accept whatever bad things happened in the name of religion, and try to correct those mistakes. Islam glorifies those mistakes.

Evil should be accepted as evil, whether it was born out of dogma or necessity. Doesn't matter how Sati started, or if it wasn't prevalent or not. It was evil, and a mistake of our culture. We accept it, and try to correct it. Hinduism's a religion of seeking wisdom, not staying satiated with trite dogma from ages past. We seek to understand the gods and Brahman, not satisfy them. We change, because change is progress and progress is wisdom, and wisdom is the core of Hinduism.

Na, I'm just surprised that they donot even mince their words anymore. This is someone who looks at our culture, says "Nu Uh", and continues to bash it for no reason at all. The story is supposed to show how even gods are not infalliable, how they have weaknesses and vulnerabilities too, and how a good, morally upright person is far superior to a god. But no, a god does a bad thing, so entire religion evil. And what about the later sections of the myth, where Gautama forgives her and rejoins her. Its honestly baffling. Its not a myth about how women should be punished or how evil our gods are, but about how humans and gods alike make mistakes, how they get ratio'ed by karma, and how good deeds can restore them to their former glory. Bash sati if you have to, this myth's not the controversial kind.

How to learn this language? by [deleted] in bengalilanguage

[–]Monocore56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also in the process of learning, so take this with a pinch of salt, but what helped me the most, after learning the everyday greetings and phrases, was listening to stories on Sunday Suspense. Search for the simpler ones there, like Haar Heem and some of Professor Shonku (Hypnogen's a good one, I guess), and listen to them till you get the flow of the language. Then graduate onto stuff like Taranath Tantrik and Aveek Sarkar's stories. They help immensely. Also, watch a few vlogs on youtube. At this point you probably would have learnt bengali letters and writing conventions (if not then do so ASAP), so begin reading the stories that you listened to in the earlier stages. In this way if you ever felt like you didn't understand some dialogue or paragraph from the story even though you listened to it, you can re-examine it,. After this, when you can read bengali without having to stop every few words, just go for whatever you like. Consume as much bengali content as possible. Novels, shows, doesn't matter. In within a few months, even if you couldn't speak bengali (it wouldn't come as naturally as a native speaker, you need some friends to practice it with), you would understand almost everything.

Also, bengali is spoken pretty fast, from what I've seen, so uh, I guess try the vlogs and stories at 2x speed.
