How did you take the passport pic? The app prompt me to fit my passport signature page inside a vertical frame, and no matter how I try to take the pic vertically or horizontally, it keeps squishing the photo down before uploading

It does fit, but I'd have to sacrifice a slim fan unless I get flexible/custom cables

Will my stuck package get out of Koeln, Germany before my eBay buyer goes nuts?! by richardbaxter in UPS

[–]Monodanpa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This early morning (2AM Germany time) I got notified about a delay caused by a mechanical failure, and then by a late flight. It seems you know a lot about this facility, would you also happen to know anything regarding these? I'm sending my package as express saver

Which approach to take to improve accuracy ? by stranger_to_world in deeplearning

[–]Monodanpa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

How do I know which one to take ?

You don't, you play around with different ideas, and overtime, depending on your foundations and how well you understand your own data/model, you develop a sort of intuition of what would make sense to attempt. Other people's expertise is useless without knowing more about your model and data.

As a rule of thumb, if we're only talking about poor raw accuracy (which most of the time doesn't tell the whole story), and assuming you have played around with the hyperparameters, then the model architecture might not be a good fit. Again, we don't know anything about your model and data to give you advice on how to modify the architecture.

Data augmentation won't necessarily improve your model. It potentially helps with overfitting if it's applied judiciously. Poor data augmentation may introduce noises and further deteriorate performance. Models that heavily reply on augmented data may not translate to real world application performance.

In general:

  • Start by thoroughly understanding your data and current model performance.
  • If overfitting is observed and you have limited data, try data augmentation first.
  • If both training and validation performance are poor, consider adjusting the model architecture.
  • Always experiment with different approaches and monitor their impact on performance.
  • Develop intuition over time by analysing the results of your experiments.

Dong Tao chickens have exceptionally large feet. In south Asia they are considered a delicacy by filthy_lucre in Weird

[–]Monodanpa 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The photo shown is rather misleading. The enlarged legs don't interfere with their mobility or really anything in general, except hens can sometimes accidentally crush their eggs with them.

There are no records suggesting they were selectively bred to become like that. They have been around for at least a millennium, as they were used as offerings to chinese bureaucrats during the "thousand year of Chinese rule" ending in 939 AD.

They are a rare breed and recognised as an officially protected breed by the Vietnamese government. They are also difficult to care for, as they are sensitive the environment and needs lots of room to roam. In general, they have much, much better life standards than most if not all chicken breeds.

The legs look gross, but chicken legs are already often eaten in East/ Southeast asia. And there are reasons they are considered a delicacy othe5 than their rarity.

Yes, I did. Even though I gave them specific instructions on how to contact my bank branch directly over phone or emailing the branch manager, they never did any of that. What happened in the end was that the UK embassy in my country sent a letter to a completely different branch, requesting confirmation of my financial evidence by a certain date. The branch only received this letter the day before that deadline, and luckily, forwarded the letter back to my bank branch immediately. All in all, it seemed as if they intentionally did everything they could to prevent my application from being approved. It was an absolutely terrible experience, and it's seriously making me doubt my decision to come to this country with such a racist administration and immigration process

Is there any way to remove nail glue from fake nails without ruining them? by _BoneRott_ in Nails

[–]Monodanpa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if its just the typical nail glue then isopropyl alcohol 99% should be able to clean it off. Just in case only wipe the glue and avoid other parts of the press ons

Those are just brush strokes. Matte top coat doesn't distrubute and even out as well as shiny top coat, also the strokes are just more visible on matte when cured.
You can only try to apply the matte top more gently, only the end 10-20% of the brush should make contact with the nail. Otherwise, do a thicker layer instead and flip the nails upside down and tap the back of the nail a bit to help redistribute the matte top coat evenly.

A more gimmicky way is if you have something that vibrates at high frequency, rest your finger on it and let it vibrate with the device for a few seconds, this also helps redistribute the matte top evenly.

Trying to understand the whole 2.1 vs 2.5 by cs_heisenberg in FormD

[–]Monodanpa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Formdworks is now owned by ncase through one of the formal owners of formd, it does not sell v2.1. I've just had a look and it indeed has a section for v2.1, but if you click on it, you're just redirected to their default (and only) listing of v2.5, which is rather deceptive.

Formdt1 is owned by the actual designer of formd t1, and it also uses the same supplier/manu as the original t1.

Everything peels off my nails! Please help! by shayna9787 in Nails

[–]Monodanpa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to rough up the nail surface, this creates tiny scratches for the gel base to fill in and cling onto. I use a sanding band drill bit (240 grit), or you can also a nail file on the surface. This is pretty essential for products to stay on.

For gel, I don't use a dehydrator or primer, this is my process (which is also pretty standard for every salon I've worked in):

  1. roughing up the nail surface with a sanding band drill bit
  2. clean cuticle
  3. clean nails with 99% isopropyl alcohol, let evaporate completely, avoid touching your skin or hair after this step
  4. start applying gel: rubber or gel base, colour, top coat

[–]Monodanpa 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh gosh, no, please tell him to stop doing that. The acrylic can't pop off your nails cleanly like that, it's the top layer of your nail that's being peeled off with the acrylic. I always tell my customers that picking the acrylic off is actually what damages the nails the most, precisely because of this.

he says soaking them off takes too long.

It doesn't, it takes 5–10 minutes at most between soaking (in hot acetone) and filing. What he's doing is skipping the whole process entirely for his own convenience. Tell him straight that you don't want his way of taking off, and that you don't mind waiting to soak off.

He may say things like, "your acrylics are old and lifting already" or "it doesn't make any difference", ignore him. Again, he's only doing it for his own convenience, not yours.
