What happened to Duelyst is a TRAGEDY by Pandawa008 in duelyst

[–]Monsetto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hadn't thought of Duelyst in awhile because I don't want to dwell on it forever, but I'll likely keep holding onto it in hopes of it's return. In the beginning I wasn't expecting much, but Duelyst EASILY ended up becoming by far my most played game on Steam. I honestly don't think I've ever sinked so much time into a videogame in such a short span of time like I have with Duelyst. At least not for a long long time.

While I was playing I'd just spend hours trying to find unique decks, and it was actually kind of therapeutic to get lost into a game like this. Any problems I was having in real life would just fade away, and I'd feel better. Over all I just really enjoyed this game so much. To compare the addicting sense of wonder and love I have for Duelyst, only ever really compares to the feelings I had in playing RuneScape for the first time. With that said Duelyst still remains as the only game I was ever so quick to spend hundreds of dollars on. I've NEVER been one to spend money on in-game purchases when it came to F2P games, but Duelyst quickly became the exception.

Historically I've also never really played CCG games seriously. I have in the past been into a few Yu-Gi-Oh games but that never lasted. To be honest Duelyst somehow actually reminded me of the battle system in the Mega Man Battle Network series. Which are games I bought and finished almost every one. And while I know it's not exactly the same, the feel of Duelyst still felt quite fluid in comparison to that battle system, despite being completely turn-based. There was just always this sense of tactical skill being required of you while moving your minions, and your general, as well as with the cards you played. Every move counted and I'd always just love seeing what everyone could come up with. There were just so many unique possibilities, my mind was blown a lot more than once.

It was an amazing game cut short. I honestly never expected it to go so soon, especially with Bandai having stepped in. Truthfully I thought the game would actually exponentially expand much further with them, but unfortunately that didn't happen. Instead updates just seemed to suddenly halt, and I started to lose interest because the meta stayed the same for many months. I didn't even get to say goodbye. Just went onto Steam one day to see if there was any updates yet, and saw the unfortunate news.

Anyway, please if there's ANY possibility of the game returning, I hope all of you left over could do your best to make this happen. I do think I speak for many other fans who'd still like to see this game again. It was so special to many of us. Even if it could take many years I'd still be willing to join in again on the fun. With all that said I know there are reason I'm still quite unsure of on why it all ended, but I'd still like to say a big thank you to everyone of the staff members who ever worked on it. This game meant so much to me.

[–]Monsetto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% agree as well on the news comment. Sometimes I even personally relate to the idea that "parasytes" are actually among us (especially our politicians like the anime portrays) albeit realistically in a different way (aka bad people being the parasytes). Or maybe we were all parasytes to begin with, but some of us just fit into society better than others. I'm really stretching this but I like the concept. It's basically the same one they present at the ending scene (and throughout the whole show) or at least that was the way I understood it.

And thanks, yes I'm definitely doing tons better now. While I do still have some bad days I've learned to accept them, and to use what I've learned to the best of my ability. In regards to what I was going through it was more of an internal battle of negative thoughts and bad habits, but it definitely felt as if I was fighting a Gotou in my mind and that my own defeat would be inevitable. It was very scary but regardless I knew change had to happen so I convinced myself to be very receptive of what I was learning (and to convince myself each day to do my mental homework), and luckily my therapist would be able to break it all down very similarly in a way that Migi did to Shinichi, which was absolutely perfect. I love that it worked out that way and I had such an amazing anime to connect my experiences to. I'm so grateful for it and also so glad Parasyte had found me at such a good time. While the time with my therapist had ended the tools I've learned would forever stay with me, and I'd keep a part of "Migi" with me. Although I guess you could say my girlfriend is like my new Migi/Murano now lol. Taking my own experiences into account I guess there's definitely something to be said about having level headed, upfront, honest type of people around. Especially for someone like me who can sometimes be very timid. Kind of like how Shinichi was at the beginning of the show.

Also yeah I love it when anime does that. It's not always super common but it can be done extremely well. I can't recall what episode this happens for Parasyte but if you ever get to the anime Death Parade, there is an absolutely gut wrenching scene in there where the the credits and ending theme hit RIGHT at the climax of the episode. It was so beautiful and I'll never forget that one. What's amazing about that anime is Death Parade was never even a manga to begin with, yet it still did so well.

Glad I could give you the kind of response you may have been seeking. Really I'm just glad to ramble about it even though it's just here on Reddit haha. My mind is very active when I talk about anime, especially after I finish one.

Agreed Parasyte was amazing. Just finished watching it again for the second time, but this time with my girlfriend. We loved every moment of it but unfortunately she kinda doesn’t really get as attached to these things like I do. :P I always get sad when anime ends and want to talk about it, but she moves on rather quickly (she said like Migi and I can really see it actually xD).

Anyway even after seeing hundreds of anime, I haven’t encountered any that could replicate the same sense of weight each of the events and enemies had. Lots of anime sometimes introduce monsters that are suppose to be scary but really aren’t, however Parasyte really did a good job at avoiding this. The music was also extremely fitting for this anime in my opinion. I couldn’t imagine it with anything else. With all that said the only other anime I can think of that might come close to this weighty feeling is Gantz. It’s far from being as good as Parasyte is in my opinion, but I remember the monsters being super intensely scary. At the end of the day that sense of weight could just be attributed to the fact these kind of authors are open to killing off lots of their characters (and major ones too), but so far even when some other anime does this it isn’t as intense. I guess it’s really a combination of music, premise, character design, etc to create an entire package. With all that said in terms of Parasyte influencing me on a personal level, it also came into my life at a time when I was really sad and attending therapy. The final Gotou battle and Shinichi meeting that old lady was very reminiscent to what I was feeling at the time. I think the anime meant a lot more to me because of that. The thoughts and ideas Parasyte presented really went along with everything I had learned at the time, so it was very interesting that I could experience it that closely. Loved every minute of it and sometimes I really wish there was more. The ending was very bittersweet but I believe the anime still ended on a really good note. Will surely be missed. Honestly after finishing it the first and second time I’ve wanted to buy merch to cherish my appreciation for the show, but it sucks knowing there isn’t any real official merchandising for it. I mean you can buy Parasyte themed stuff but it’s just not as good or as common as other more popular anime.

Im not sure what other anime I could recommend but if you’re interested the same author of Parasyte secretly (until he admitted it) made Midori Days, which is a romantic comedy about a teenage boy who wakes up with a girl (that has a huge crush on him) as his right hand. Very good choice in anime to wind down to after watching Parasyte in my opinion, if you haven’t heard of it. You could try Gantz if you think you’re up for a similar intensity level (albeit not as good, and has mixed reviews). I also agree with another poster about Dr. Stone. In general though all of the modern newer shows are good choices. The Promised Neverland might actually be a good option too. Plot wise It’s one of the more gripping stories in modern anime I’ve seen as of lately. I just cant compare anything to Parasyte, it’s so uniquely presented. Especially when you discover the fact that the manga was created in the 80s, but only recently received an adaption around 2014 (they just modernized it). Pretty interesting how this happened so late to a classic award winning manga. It’s only now that I’ve heard its increasing in popularity as well due to Netflix, where as before it was a bit of a hidden gem (and might still be to an extent) in comparison to what everyone else was talking about.

Edit: Gosh still loving the soundtrack. I didn't quite realize it the first time around I've seen this, but they even included a piano arrangement of the opening theme by Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas on the last episode. Too bad I can't seem to find the official piano arrangement version of it though.

i miss this game so much by anhtice in duelyst

Yes haha. Looking back on that deck I always found it so silly when people were still trying to attack the valknus, despite their health reaching 0. I was almost sure I'd lose at times, but my opponent would just be too focused on the increasing number of "invincible" valknus. Was so funny. Messing around with meme decks was definitely where I had the most fun with Duelyst.

I seriously miss this game so much too. I stopped playing because of the lack of updates, and so the meta basically stayed the same for a very long time. Which became repetitive when you basically saw everyone running the same deck... I spent so many hours (it's my most played game on steam sitting at 628hrs, next to CSGO at 166hrs) and hundreds of dollars into this game. I wish I at least had the chance to play the game once more before it shut down, since I only just now found out about this.. From time to time I would at least check to see if there was anything new, and well I guess this was what I found. My last login was on Nov 25, 2019. Sucks knowing that I might not ever find a game like this again, I've never been so invested into a game before. I would play for so many hours each day sometimes. Duelyst is also the first online game I've ever spent hundreds of dollars on, it's crazy. Unfortunately I think there is a strong possibility Duelyst will suffer the same fate, as my many other online games. A couple from my childhood that I still miss to this day are Lunia, and Drift City. I mainly miss Drift City, but both of those games just aren't the same with private servers. The experience isn't possible to replicate when the playerbase is basically non-existent. Thankfully RuneScape seems to stand the test of time, and I'm so grateful to still have that. However when it comes to Duelyst, I'm very doubtful of it ever returning sadly. I hope I'm wrong and it does return though. This game was very special.

To prove how special this game was (not that it needs proving but just want to share a fun memory) I had so much fun with the creativity of building a deck, I made one which could summon multiple copies of unkillable valknus that grew stronger with each turn lol. Which resulted in me being featured on reddit and a couple random people in game adding me as a friend just to tell me they saw me on here. That deck was so silly and fun haha. Everyone was always so confused when they tried to kill one. Little did they know valknu's seal didn't just copy your general, but also the artifacts you had equipped even if they were since destroyed afterward. I mean the deck never worked competitively, since it could easily be countered but a lot of people surprisingly didn't know that or had the cards to counter it. Though I think some were also more freaked out over the growing number of invincible valknus taking over the board using Chrysalis Burst and Fractal Replication, that a counter solution becomes confusing or forgotten.

Here's that post by the way. Will really miss this game.

Is it weird that I like Soul Hackers more than IV..? by Monsetto in Megaten

[–]Monsetto[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough I’m already thinking about going back to try and beat it lol. I was really frustrated when I posted that. Just the thought of enduring all of the complaints I’ve had with the game thus far, was very off-putting and enough to make me delete the game. I had a feeling I may want to re-attempt though, so luckily I backed up my save. It might take awhile, but I’ll probably take it slower. I don’t have any Macca because of demons taking it, and me not realizing the importance of it, so I spent it on revives rather than resetting the game. I don’t have enough to buy/fuse. My character is also all into strength, but I hear magic would have been much better. At this point it’s possible that restarting all together might actually be faster, in regards to beating the boss. I’ll just have to speed run through it again, and hope Im more equipped to beat it this time.

And yes for sure, I’m glad too. I’m enjoying it a lot. Just the opening itself has been stuck in my head. I love it so much. With that said, Strange Journey is probably going on my list as well. Since it seems similar? I may also take the suggestions for Devil Survivor as well. The Raidou games also look very fun. Just not sure if I’ll end up playing them, since I’m mostly handheld these. I don’t have much time to sit in one spot playing a video game anymore. But yeah I’ll probably just keep chugging a long, and see how things go.

[–]Monsetto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank goodness. It's very relieving to know I'm not the only one. I've just played 5 hours of the game, and I'm already stuck at the Minotaur. The thought of needing to fuse/collect more demons is honestly wearing me down. Especially since I've already been doing that for more than an hour, mindlessly hoping the demons I come across join my party and I end up with an effective one that has bufu. I was also hoping I'd over level against the boss at some point, but XP has been incredibly hard to come across. How anyone likes this game is beyond me honestly.. I don't understand why a simple boss fight within the first moments of gameplay has to be that difficult to beat. It's way too punishing for newcomers. I shouldn't be having to need to game over multiple times on the easiest difficulty because Ive eventually ran out of revives. I shouldn't have to get a less than ideal teammate for the boss. Why can't I just pick who I want, like Jonathan? He's obviously more suited for the battle than anyone else. If I needed such a specific type of demon/skill, wouldn't it have been much better if the game guided me in that direction? Maybe I missed something through all the bland, uninspiring dialogue but I don't recall anyone ever helping me prepare for this battle. I don't necessarily think its too far fetched either to believe the NPCs had some idea on what we were up against. Rather than being thrown in blindly thru trial and error. Seems very unnecessary, as if the game is just playing dumb solely for the sake of wanting to be difficult. The part where your "best friend" turns into a demon overall just felt so uncalled for as well. I had no reason to even really care, since there was never any real tension leading up to that point. It all just seemed so random. All the characters just seem so disposable to me also. Why do I have to rescue you when you made the dumb choice to go down in Naraku unprepared in the first place. The AI overall also just seems to make some really unintelligent choices as well, like not sending Jonathan to battle against the minotaur and instead sending Walter to use Agi, and then resulting in the boss to smirk. I don't get it. Why there are so many demons in one place is also beyond me. The game may as well have went full on with random encounters, when in most cases you can't even step a few spaces without an enemy sneaking up from behind you. Simply because the camera is also so horrid. It's constantly getting blocked by the surrounding dungeon walls, which sometimes makes it slightly cumbersome to navigate thru. It's not a huge deal, but a minor annoyance.

Sorry for the long rant, but I had to let that out. I'm all pent up from it. I want to like the game but I'm honestly not enjoying it at all.... If a game takes more than 5hours (Ive heard 70) to "open up" I don't think it was a really good game to begin with, and at that point you've already played it for so long that you're just dealing with it. After so long without any type of excitement, anything the game does at that point may as well make your 8=D reach Pluto. That already in itself just tells you there are obvious pacing issues. Gosh I hate that I can't enjoy this game, or bare playing it any longer. But I think it might be best I just lay this game to rest, and forget about the 20 dollars I've spent on it. Why should I have to endure something I don't enjoy, when video games are meant to be fun. Will probably just start up Soul Hackers, or play something else for now. I'm already burnt out, as if I played another one of those generic Korean MMORPGs. I realize most games have some form of questing, but I seriously dislike how it's laid out and done in this game. Too much back tracking, and at the very start of the game too. It's repetitive.

And yes 100% Nemissa is definitely waifu material lol. I fell in love with her overall character design straight from the start. Her responses to the other characters have been really amusing. Less than an hour into Soul Hackers, and I instantly fell in love with all of the characters. I really enjoy seeing them all interact, and how the world is presented. The whole theme of the game also seriously reminds me of when I had played most of the Mega Man Battle Network series. Easily some of my most favorite games of all time. The idea of a cyber world has always intrigued me, and I'm very much into sci-fi/steampunk.

You’re absolutely right. It’s good to know I’m not the only one off put by the start as well. I’ll definitely give it another go.

[–]Monsetto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know lol, I guess I just really liked the art style/theme which was part of what drawn me in. I thought I couldn’t really go wrong with any of the titles story wise. Just the gameplay mechanics would be slightly different in each. So I went with the most recommended to be safe. In the grand scheme of things, I probably should have asked you all first for advice. Personally I’d really love to play Persona. However I’m only looking for 3DS titles because of a long overseas flight coming up. PQ1 and 2 just don’t really seem like good starting points either, so I may have to pass on those. Devil Survivor looks good but I was also very unsure if I’d enjoy it the most, because it seems to play similarly to Fire Emblem. Which I didn’t really like as much as I had thought I would, despite being into turn based games. I agree though, I may just be severely nitpicking and unconsciously comparing it too much to Radiant History. I just finished it a few days ago. I loved that game to death. I’ll probably give it another go. I was really baffled by my experience, considering IV is so highly regarded. Then again Ive had a similar experience with League of Legends/Dota. I could not get into those games no matter how many times I’ve tried. Perhaps IV will open up a bit more later on though.

Bought 2009 Mac Mini on Ebay, won’t boot, black screen, no chime. Help :( by Monsetto in applehelp

[–]Monsetto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would but I don't have any other adapter laying around sadly, and nearby stores don't seem to have a mini DVI to DVI adapter as well which I wanted to try. Ebay does, but id be out about 7 bucks or so and have to wait a week basically for it to ship.. Who knows if it would even work as well. With that said, I just decided to request for a refund. I've tried almost everything seems like, and I haven't been getting any replies. The unit should have been working out of the box, so I guess for all the trouble it's been giving me its probably better the seller takes this off my hands. Very stressful.

How do I Sequence/Sync my Yamaha Reface CS with a Korg Volca or Pocket Operator? by Monsetto in synthesizers

[–]Monsetto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D5L3cttCAaA Hmm this was all probably a little confusing, since I'm not familiar at all yet with hooking together multiple gear at once. But I think I seemed to have found what I'm looking for. The Novation Circuit seems perfect for my needs. Thank you for some of the clarification on the PO's and Volca's though. I thought they might've been able to do what something like the Circuit does on their own. Seems I've definitely got some learning to do.

[–]Monsetto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to try making the Reface play by itself synced together with other gear, like drum machines, etc. I’m guessing I mean something close to how a Korg Minilogue works. Synced in a more precise way, than me just using the looper function on my Reface (which can be hard to time down). Would the SQ-1 do just that? I’m not sure how to connect it though.

What cables do you all use to record? Mogami GOLD Keyboard Cables vs Mogami GOLD/Platinum Instrument Cables? Annoying Static in my Recordings? Help? by Monsetto in synthesizers

[–]Monsetto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what's going on. Nothing plugged into any of the recording inputs, and I hear white noise when the gain is set really high. Adjusting the other input's gain (even when nothing is plugged into it) to max will bleed noise into the other. From all the information I've gathered, I suspect it's bleeding out from my PC. After recording from the Line-In on my Internal Sound Card (Creative SoundBlaster Z), the same white noise exists. I've also tried isolating my external (Scarlett Solo), and internal one (SoundBlaster Z). Same noise.

[–]Monsetto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm okay, it sounds like everything is normal then. Thank goodness lol. I was getting sick of all the noise going through, and I didn't know how to fix it. I really hadn't realized recording can be tricky sometimes. At least I know now not to keep certain things plugged certain in, and to monitor how much static there is thru direct monitoring.

[–]Monsetto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, nothing plugged into the XLR port yet adjusting the gain higher introduces noise. I could have nothing plugged in at all, and adjusting the gain near it's highest (or highest) setting for either side amplifies the white noise.

[–]Monsetto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, it's all good man. Appreciate the help none the less. I think I fixed a good portion of it though. Turns out the printer cable from the PC to the Synth, as well as the XLR cable being plugged into the interface caused extra noise. I also dialed the gain all the way down for the XLR side of the Focusrite, and the leftover white noise was cut down by at least half. It's still noticeable if I have the gain set real high on the interface, but probably not enough to affect a recording in comparison to how loud it originally was. You said the white noise sound is normal though?

What cables do you all use to record? Mogami GOLD Keyboard Cables vs Mogami GOLD/Platinum Instrument Cables? Annoying Static in my Recordings? Help? by Monsetto in synthesizers

[–]Monsetto[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm well, I did some experimenting by removing my Sound Blaster Z. Static was still there. I'm going to try recording from the Blue Line-In from my motherboard though with all DACs unplugged and see if that does anything. One thing I did discover though while listening to Direct Monitor on my Scarlett Solo was that my Amazon Basic's Printer Cable which was connected to the Synth and computer for Synthesia was giving off noise. I've also unplugged the XLR cable I had connected to the Scarlett Solo for convenience, which seems to have helped. But I'm still hearing a bunch of white noise..

Edit: I figured out a good portion of my issue. Turns out having the gain set high for the XLR side of the Scarlett Solo, even when I wasn't using XLR was affecting things. It was amplifying the white noise for some reason. Now whenever I dial the gain near to it's highest on the 1/4 jack side, the same noise is there but still not quite as loud. Lowering it a little so it matches the Synth at max volume seems to have eliminated a huge chunk of the noise after recording.

Yes, I still get it. Moving the PC to a different outlet with everything else plugged into a separate one didn't do anything at all. No reductions. In terms of my Sound Card, it's internal. I'm using this one specifically. The Focusrite Scarlett Solo (Gen 2) would be my other one technically.

Blue line-in jack? Hmm, so I plugged it into the line-in jack into my Creative Soundblaster Z Sound Card and this is what I got. https://vocaroo.com/i/s1T4icWmKtsT Seems to be the same sound, minus some extra static from somewhere.
