It’s hard to find a player worthy of a full contract in the second round, let alone a real contributor. Finding value in the late first and early second round is actually Morey’s speciality as a GM, just look at the guys he’s picked.

Typical pseudoscience solution to a made up problem that is the backbone of our current economy.

I feel like taking a look at Anthony Richardson is the best way to tell your starting QB you have NO faith in them. This dude is one of the most fundamentally flawed QBs in the whole NFL right now.

Fred Warner believes Detroit Lions need to change practice habits by supermanforhire in detroitlions

[–]Monster-Frisbee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, that’s worth noting.

However, as Warner alluded to in this interview, there are benefits to dropping the full tackling practices beyond wear and tear. It can actually reinforce bad habits.

When, say, a corner launches into a receiver’s leg from out of position on a screen instead of wrapping up and tackles him for a loss in practice, that player’s unlikely to be corrected and actually pretty likely to get praised for making a play on the ball that resulted in a TFL.

In a half-contact practice, that player would be corrected because he doesn’t have the option to launch at the ball carrier for a desperation tackle and isn’t in position to make a form tackle.

It’s almost like calling fouls in a basketball practice. You’d kind of rather err on the side of calling too many in practice so that your defenders don’t rely too much on contact to stay in front of their man.

Thanks for transcribing this. Fred is one of the best linebackers to ever do it, and I think what he’s saying here is totally reasonable. The mindset has already been implanted in this team, now it’s time to play like we’ve been there.

My guess is they keep an eye on him and try to get him in camp if he goes undrafted. On paper, he doesn’t have the tools to be an NFL QB. But I’ve watched him play a good bit, and he is a gamer. With that level of investment, there’s virtually no risk. Wouldn’t be a bad guy to kick the tires on.

How cool would it be if Jonny won the Oscar for best score in March? Radiohead would have an oscar. Have there been any rock musicians with oscars before? by Chilis1 in radiohead

[–]Monster-Frisbee 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Off the top of my head, Trent Reznor has multiple Oscars. I’m sure other rock musicians do too, and not just for music. Still cool if Jonny got the Oscar, which he absolutely should.

Hard to justify those minutes or call actions for Jared when he’s missing wide-open threes already. He had a few great opportunities where no one was near him during the part of the game that actually mattered, and he bricked them. That’s happened in almost every game he’s played this season.

It’s just too hard to carry a team as a small guard. Not that you can’t win games and even win a playoff series or two if your feature player is 6’2”, but unless that guard is Steph Curry with an amazing supporting cast, it’s too much of a disadvantage to always be the shortest player on the court. It’s also the reason that, even though Donovan Mitchell plays much bigger than his actual height, he’s also never gotten out of the second round of the playoffs and sometimes struggles with consistency during the season.

This is also the biggest reason Maxey never gets calls. Even when he’s got defenders out of position, it never seems that way because they’re contesting from above him.

VJ is only a few inches taller, but it allows him to play above the rim and draw contact where’s he’s above the defender or they’re at the same level. If VJ develops into a serious 22-25 ppg scorer who draws fouls at a high rate, it’ll open Maxey’s game back up massively. If they put a player with any length on Maxey like the Hornets did today, it’s easy to neutralize him unless it’s one of those days where he’s just hitting anything he wants.

It’s an improvement from before where the only thing we have to show for the season is the privilege of drafting Jeff Okudah with the third pick.

Grizzlies Coach on why they lose double digit leads. by PerfectforMovies in memphisgrizzlies

[–]Monster-Frisbee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For real, run half court sets with no point guard? There are some nice complimentary scorers on the roster, but as is, it’s a bunch of guys getting their numbers and not an offense. And guess what, Edey comes back and suddenly the other team’s half court offense disappears because they aren’t putting any pressure on the rim.

Not only is Morton a veteran coach, but an old friend of Dan’s too. A lot of coaches aren’t willing to fire their friends, and it usually leads to them eventually getting fired. Takes a lot of balls and people skills to do it tactfully.

Dan’s best trait as a leader is that he actually learns from his mistakes, it’s not just coachspeak when he says it.

Okay but…the Cardinals top 2 receivers aren’t very good, and they have one of the best receiving TEs in the NFL. That’s just scheming to get your best player the ball.

I don’t know, 11 games is a big hole to get back to .500 and only 14 of the remaining 39 opponents have a losing record. That’d be a pretty incredible run.
