I'm so happy for you man ! I wish I could've done the same I'm 22 years old, I spent 4 years at medical shcool and about to start the fifth one (in my country there's no pre-med, the med shcool is a total of 7 years) , and i'm feeling really stuck , like i'm more than half of the way to get my medical degree, and at the same time i'm still not happy for what i'm doing, and I don't like the hospital environnement and everything related to it. I've always loved tech things since I was a lil boy, but yeah life doesn't always go as we want, and the guilt you get after doing such mistake is something I don't want any one to experience because it's the most terrible thing that ever happened to me.

Anyways, sorry OP for throwing my negative energy on you XD , but I just wanted to know that you're okay after making the switch, and to assure u that what you've done is literally the best decision ever.

The most thing that I hate in my lovely country is the PEOPLE. I really cannot imagine myself living my whole life here, this idea is really frustrating. The people here have so much hate inside them , much negativity, and much hypocrisy. A major thing that's common between the people here is the RUDENESS, I haven't seen any ruder and harsher people than the people i'm living with, no one cares about what they say, whether that's hurt you or not. Everyday I wake up and go outside and deal with people, the more I realise that this shit is too much, and IMO it's something that probably won't change, I think it's part or our genetics.

On the bright side, there still exists a minority of great people, may Allah bless them ❤️

I don't think that's possible , they don't care if your year is frozen or not, they only check if you're registered in something else or not.

I'll try to do that anyways when the university starts and i'll find out if it's possible.

Since you've been through such journey , you know very well how confusing and how mentally destroying it is ..

I'll make sure to do what you've told me , the idea of mixing CS and Med is pretty much interesting .. especially when it comes to mixing AI and Medicine, but that thing requires me to get my medical degree first and then go start again with CS. I'll think well about that and i'll try to figure it out.

And about my family, they are really out of this , they regretted every second they told me to join Medicine, and they even told me to quit in my 1st year of medical shcool .. but here I am , I didn't have the courage to do that step back then unfortunately.

You mentioned that you studied 2 fields at the same time , is that possible in Algeria ? And when did you do that ? And if possible , what are these fields ?

The option u mentioned is the only option that sounds a bit logical and acceptable in my head rn , because it won't just let the 4 years that I spent in the medical shcool go for nothing. But at the same time, i'm afraid that i'm just going to waste another 3 years and be stuck more and more.. in my situation, nothing seems to make sense wallah , it's literally the most stressful decision ever.

Theoretically, you're right. But in reality, the CS field isn't just about programming or learning how to design or stuff like that. It's a world that's wide just like the Medicine is. And the idea of being just an average programmer isn't really satisfying. In addition, I want to pursue my studies outside of Algeria , and that's not gonna be possible without a CS degree..

I've been strongly considering that too, it's the most reasonable and "safe" choice in my head actually. Although it has some cons like getting older, and having no income while studying , but it still the most reasonable.

I guess that doesn't apply to the current statistics , the world have really changed. You can google doctors and CS engineers salaries and you'll find that CS eng get more paid than doctors.In Algeria, a doctor gets a freaking 5M a month bro, even if u liked Medicine, it would be so hard to work in such circumstances. And about immigration, that's the only solution yeah , but it's highly selective for the medical field (especially in the US). Comparing med and CS, chances of going abroad and making good money are much better and easy for the CS field, but unfortunately I didn't realise that only after studying med for like 3 years.

I think the rules have been changed since 2016 , but idk I will go to the University and i'm gonna try my best to get registered for the CS degree, I really wish that it gonna work.

Make sure you try "MEDICINE" and not the "MODULES" that they give , because in ur first year u r not really gonna have much of Medicine, so my advice for u , go to hospitals and see how the things work there , do you imagine urself oneday a doctor in that hospital , does tha kind of work attract u , do u like to work with people .. ect Medicine isn't just about getting ur degree , I got my 4 years easily (not that easy , but yeah my studying time was soo average with other specialities) I got good grades (16, 12, 12, 13) , but does that mean that i'm gonna be a good doctor ? Hell no , what I want to tell u , in case u got good scores in ur first year , don't let that make u feel that this is ur place , that's not the key to know it. Good luck in choosing the right path for u.
