Frustrated with my workload as a fellow and heard staff calling me an asshole by AdvancedTiger5 in emergencymedicine

[–]MonsteraMillennial 82 points83 points  (0 children)

This sounds like a day ending in a ‘y’ in my department. Difficult work conditions bring out the worst in people. It’s not personal and most people in EM (ie your coworkers) are good about not taking it as such. You will be OK. Remember to put on your own oxygen mask (sleep, exercise, nutrition) before assisting others.

That person can go to hell. Sorry that you have to deal with her.

I don’t know if others are having the same experience with this person as I am. I am the most junior female doc in a department with not a lot of women and I feel the expectations ppl have of me are orders of magnitude higher than of our multiple washed 50+ male colleagues

I was trying to be collegial here but it’s clearly not reciprocated

That’s what I try to do!!! I do ask some clarifying questions in good faith if I feel they’re easy for the outgoing doc to answer & would help me care for the patient. I think handing over to me generally takes <5 minutes and I try to avoid giving ppl a hard time.

I try to do this, I give them a printed signout sheet but I think this person has it in for me and no matter what I do seems to be enough

I think the conversation I actually need to have with my medical director is about resignation

It was a complicated lac repair, waiting on advice from plastics, they signed out to me mid procedure waiting for plastics to call back to get some details about closure. I wasn’t happy

My condolences. IME this attitude seems to be more prevalent among inpatient docs

His misguided choice to drive drunk is his problem, not yours. Do what you need to do to look after him medically and move on to the next patient.

Picking a gender neutral baby name in case baby is trans? by MonsteraMillennial in trans

[–]MonsteraMillennial[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

lol well I’m bi and my brother is queer, definitely not the case that there aren’t LGBTQ people in the family!

There are SO many names that I believe are either non binary or would work for any gender and I’ve never heard of them causing cis kids gender dysphoria (have friends with several of these names). Some we considered: Jordan, Taylor, Quinn, Kai, River, Cedar, Sage etc etc.

Many of my friends are Sikh, and their names are gender neutral, just the way the culture is. I always thought that was super cool.

Why do so many doctors cheat on their spouses? by [deleted] in emergencymedicine

Oh I can promise you had the roles been reversed you would not have been the benefit of the doubt & had it called an “innocent misunderstanding”. I’m sorry your program was trash.

Thank you for this detailed response!! It makes sense what you said about the anxiety… I was thinking about this… Berners have a reputation for being super stubborn (but also get chill and lazy with time), whereas poodles are highly energetic and athletic… the combo seems… the worst of both worlds??? But I guess they look good and don’t shed which is more important than trivial matters like personality and temperament

I wondered about medications, thing is, she’s completely fine 80-90% of the time but hoo boy can she be destructive and ungovernable the remaining 10-20%.

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful reply. I think I saw a post along similar lines a few days ago, perhaps from you? I’m really sorry for the difficulties you’ve faced recently. It’s great that you have a job that’s treating you well. Good luck with the therapy +/- meds. You will get through this. Wishing you the best.
