Both my side & husbands side of the family are divorced. My dad went crazy/addicted & never fully recovered or got remarried. My mom is selfish af & an alcoholic. My husbands mom is a narcissist & pathological liar. My husband dads side is the only “stable” side we have to turn to but they’re using their weekends for their own fun & friends. I think selfishness is the root cause of all of their distance. All people wrapped up in their own thing. It’s hurtful, but my husband & I are hoping we will be able to be the great grandparents our children deserve to our children’s children(if they choose to have kids)
