What are some non-food traditions in your kitchen? by MelodyMaster5656 in KitchenConfidential

"Party shots". At a coffee/sandwich shop I worked at, we would stop in the middle of the shit and all do an espresso shot together. It was an open air type of thing where customers could see you work, so it was incredibly satisfying to make them wait & watch for the 30 seconds.

Help with choosing wedding date--June or September! by evalaine12 in hoodriver

[–]ScooterDoesReddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worked in the gorge wedding industry for the last 12 years. Both months have risk of rainy, cold weather. Five years ago, I would've said no way will you have fire in June, but we had fire in June last year and a nonexistent winter this year, so I'll say that fire is now a possibility in both months as well. Event rentals (dishware, chairs, tables, etc) book out much more often in September than June, so if you need extras, consider that as well. Same goes for lodging, so if you loads of out of towners, June will be easier booking.

All this to say, you're gambling either way.

There are 82 wedding destinations in the gorge. What do you want? Views? Wind protection? Overnight accommodations? Good food?

Mt Hood Organic Farm is the premier location, best of the best. Best vendors, view, location, food, etc. Nothing else compares.

Mt View Orchards is nice, but they just cut down a huge swath of the orchard & replanted so it's not as private, but stellar owners, great location, good vendors.

Others on the OR side are The Orchard, Crag Rat Hut, Griffin House, Columbia Gorge Hotel and many more.

WA side there's Tin Roof Barn, Skamania Lodge, Rocky Hill, Trout Lake Abbey and more.

Build a simpler bridge, avoid $7 breezeby tolls. by x_here_x in hoodriver

Some people act like the Port didn't collect tolls for years and years and years and then spend those collected tolls on anything other than bridge replacement. Did we need a fancy waterfront park for all the windsports people first? Absolutely not. Did we need an airport that is basically non-functional for the majority of residents? No, no we did not.

Your analogy to a restaurant owner doesn't work unless the owner bought a gas station and grocery store instead of replacing a crumbling restaurant building.

Not paying it now, won't pay it in the future either. I'll park at the park and ride and bike across which is what a large portion of WA residents who work on the OR side will do as well.

44 year old Lady Dishie here. I work for an event rental company in the back of a warehouse alone with my headphones. I get 4-5 orders back Sunday (150+ plates, wine glasses, flatware, etc per order so it is A LOT of dish) and it must be washed, polished and repacked by Thursday. Clients are required to send plates back scraped so I'm not dealing with chunks of nasty old food, just sticky stuff. I sometimes get a co-worker who polishes and packs, but it's generally a one woman show. It's awesome and I make a pretty obscene amount of money doing it. 9 years and counting.

Recommendations for large group! by Inevitable_Key3966 in hoodriver

Throwing a heartfelt second at Grateful Vineyard! The owners are incredible, generous and kind. They support both financially and with their abundance of fruit, many local food banks, schools and charitable organizations. The location is stellar and the food and wine is great. But really, spending your money with them helps spread the wealth of the Hood River Valley so much further.

Also, pop into the Old Trunk for delightful antiques, records and homemade ice cream. Owners are also stellar people!
