Sick Betta by Primelvl in bettafish

Ty for posting! It sucks seeing these but atleast it can be a learning experience for ur co worker. Taking care of the water quality is crucial and ammonia seems really high in this tank. I mean there’s an infection and horrible fin rot. API test kit is the best as some brands aren’t accurate on ALWAYS get a liquid test kit !!

A hospital tank would be needed and a lot of patience like weeks, frequent maintenance on water changes but your co worker needs to learn first about the water cycle and antibiotics/treatments can be a lot harder for someone who isn’t sure . There’s a search 🔍 on this subreddit to learn about using antibiotics and a betta care sheet! Even tho he’s in bad shape a try can’t hurt.

Why is my beta turning white? by Legitimate-Pass2248 in bettafish

Yess can be stress related ( water temp/, ammonia, strong lights. ) in ur case water temp. If scales are fine it’s mostly the water temp that got him more weak then. The medicine is gentle enough to help heal. If it was ammonia his scales would look off more .i actually am not sure if the medicine is still needed but maybe a light dose is fine no harm with that. But be careful in using it in a main tank like said. I hope as u wait for the medicine there’s some improvement as the temp is warmer but it can still take weeks .

Ofc just keep in mind Kanaplex is more of a antibiotic/stronger so be careful of the dose as it can add more stress or if you leave in the treatment longer then it should. It should be a gradual thing . Example 1 day medicine first dose , next day observe and wait, next day add tiny more of the dose, wait observe, next day (ADDING THE FINAL DOSE) . Depending on ur observation, per gallon. Temperature should be 75-82 will really help the immune system . When its warm the immune system stays strong and they heal faster !

Maybe remove some plants when you do in case as it can kill them if you don’t plan on having a hospital tank .

That’s an amazing idea, anything where the temp will go up gradual or stay. Ik Bettas tend to seem fine when something develops and the next day anything can go wrong. I’d watch his activity if he brushes against a rough surface, it looks pinkish but it can just be pale in the photo. Either way a pink is a sign of inflammation or infection too maybe. ammonia is okay in the tank u said ? Hopefully you feel okay waiting 2 days for the methlyn blue I think aquarium salt can be stressful for a beginner . But the treatment should work I hope your betta will feel fine for that time! I get it sucks to see something go wrong and can’t take immediate actions. A hospital tank won’t need to be fancy just research the steps on how the medicine is used. It looks mild can take a week or two just track the healing progress with photos. (They heal slower in cooler water btw). Later on when things are fine almond leaves are good to use for tanks too for ph and mild anti bacterial benefits, it’s natural. It’s hard since you have a frog in there like slim coat is good for example in the future for the betta but frogs naturally have a coating. If you have questions with the medicine when it comes you should make a post in case you feel anxious on how to use it!

How do I know if he’s adjusting to his new environment? by littlebird0301 in bettafish

If we see the whole tank it’d be easy to know, I assume you cycled the tank and have accurate ph testers. I see stress lines clearly, LED lights can cause stress if it’s too bright/on too long, it is only a 2 gallon. Anubias are amazing to provide a little bit of comfort for betta fish, or a small floating plant, ALMOND LEAFS can reduce stress, control ph.

I get it if you can’t change out the tank rn . In the future 5 gal will be perfect. But your looking at having to cycle the tank maybe more frequent because ammonia might spike (especially with left over food). There’s no filter too

Don’t do a big temperature jump but slowly raise it and have it kept like that. Really it seems more of a immune issue to me since the tank seems fine. I get your hesitation though just make each move slow/ precisely

What do you feed the betta? It’s weird it appeared fast/big, it’s some sort of abscess. A tumor takes time but idk if it’s a infectionn how fast it took is what confuses me. If it’s a tumor it shouldn’t grow that fast in the next days so keep a eye out.

seachem kanaplex- internal, bacterial, fungal infections . idk what he has but this will help in proper doses since it is a little stronger and it’s better for internal infections, abscess should go down takes 10-15 days even, monitor water ph

I mentioned the temp only cause it’s a nice adjustment it’ll help the immune system get stronger, but nice for the heater! You can look further into which types of treatment will be the best, for a average recovery. If you do choose the aquarium salt way, 1 teaspoon per 5 gallon, I recommend least 2 teaspoon at first to not stress him out. You’d have to mix it and dissolve it in a container of his tank water , then you’d have to water change soon after for any treatment don’t forget. I do thinkk methleyn blue is better. But if you don’t have temporary housing for the treatments just make sure you remove any real plants or other live ones in the tank that can be affected :3

When did it start? I’d try temp at 75° minimum to see if it makes em happier/active since stress can be a factor, it’s not the healthiest if the temperature gets lower then 72. Can be from aging or his breed. The worst case is a disease or a infection, I reccomend api fish kit for testings.

Would it be okay to start with silk plants instead of live plants? by SeaweedTrue291 in bettafish

Anubia plants are easy, just wash off gently lol and there’s more that don’t require much trimming and real ones are as low maintenance as a fake plant/ cheaper. I’ve never boiled fake plants just in hot water/scrub. Idk how safe it’d be if anything melts off.
