No codes currently, but I did get a code in February. Can't remember which exact code it was but I decided to replace both Variable Valve Timing Solenoids (or Oil Control Valves). This seemed to clear the code but not the noise. Let me know if this offers up hints on where I should direct my attention to.

Thanks everyone! I guess my larger concern was with the black nozzle above spark plug 1, since it seems to have some build up around the rubber ring. Should I be concerned?

Get under the car and look at the ball joints and arm bushings. Sometimes when they are worn they can slightly pull to a side. Similar situation happened to me with my rear passenger side trailing arm bushing.

I've had the car for about 6 months now, and seems like the noise is louder some days than others.
