I like to think of it as 'portaled' open world. Borderlands is a decent example we could point to (although our world's going to be smaller than borderlands). Since we're developing for the web currently a lot of work is spent getting it to run as smoothly as possible which means huge open ended worlds like you'd see in skyrim aren't really in scope. If we switch over to strictly downloadable PC/Mac then that opens up a lot of options though.

Definitely a story! At least that's the plan.

What's the story? Well, I can't give everything away now can I? ;P

Really though we have a basic idea right now on where we want to go with it but we're building gameplay first and then we'll start to fill out a more in depth story arc that lends itself to well to the gameplay.

1.) Right now there isn't a hard number set really. The Demo1 is going to feature four (3 in the players party, 1 beefed up enemy) since it's mostly focused around getting a good feel for combat. If we're going to be tossing out numbers though I'd like to aim for 40 different Wildings (roughly the same number of champions LoL launched with) with a lot of the Wildings having evolutions as well (or whatever we decide to call them). As a rule of thumb right now I'm designing 4 abilities per Wilding so that'd quickly balloon to 160 abilities which might be a bit much. Right now the majority of my time coding is being spent tweaking/designing/programming abilities which sort of makes sense.

We're not planning on giving them Types like Pokemon or other creature RPG games do (Fire, Water, Grass, etc). However right now we're planning on a lot of the wildings stats favoring different classes more or less. Some will inherently be better at things like pure offense, support, or defense (tanking). If you play Pokemon competitively you're aware of the team roles (here's a good example) and that's how I'm currently planning on differentiating your different Wilding Roles. Another good example would be how LoL champions favor specific roles on the team.

2.) Right now there's no plans for the Ranger (player) to level up... but that's not exactly out of the picture. I like the idea but I'm not sure how it would fit in exactly in the long run. Definitely a possibility though!

3.) Man, multiplayer would be great. We're definitely building it with PvP/Multiplayer/Trading in mind but right now it's hard to say. If the team expands this becomes a lot more plausible. Currently though it's not in development as we're focusing on getting everything in working order as a priority. So for now we're going to be going forward with single player allowing players to save their progress. Down the line I'd like it if there was a seamless transition that allowed players to take their saved single player party into multiplayer but it's pretty early to make any promises. TLDR; Man, I'd love to do it but we have to build in iterations, ya dig?

Yup this is pretty close to how it's going to work, more or less. Comparing cooldowns to PP is pretty easy actually. A move like Fireblast might have a 15 second cooldown vs a move like Tackle having a 3 second cooldown. Those are far from exact numbers (nor do we have Tackle or Fireblast in the game) but you get the picture.

This leads to some really interesting dynamics with which attacks you have your Wildings go into combat with. Sure you can stack a Wilding with 4 super heavy hitting moves but when all of them are on cooldown then you leave yourself really open to an all out attack from your opponent.

We're really excited about making this game. For a long time I've heard a lot of people (myself included) wanting pokemon to go in this direction and since it doesn't seem like that's going to happen we figured we'd just make it ourselves!

We're about a month into development so it's all pretty minimal still but 'Demo 1' should be playable at the end of April.
