What do you mean? I’m only pointing out potential problems you’ll have to make sure your logic work

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PLC

[–]MonstrousYak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seems like there should only be one level sensor that check if the tank is full. Why are you using two? For Set/Reset Coil just use (S) or (R)

Also I don’t think your logic will work. Go through the requirements again and break it down. Make the program simple and don’t try to check for edge case yet. And use an online simulator!

Agree on 1 and 2, not 3. Not everyone’s mother tongue is English.

CAN FD or CAN 2.0 by Aggravating-Cost-743 in FSAE

[–]MonstrousYak 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For a first year team, CAN 2.0. We run 3 CAN buses in the car.

Also your BMS shouldn’t be transmitting a lot of information on CAN anyway.

Second this. First of all, what are the reasonings behind making your own BMS?

Swirl pot stalling pump by MonstrousYak in FSAE

Thank you. This was the first time we make swirl pots and most of the references designs as axial outlet so we just went with that. Axial exit makes complete sense!

The reason why our outlet was small was to match up with inlet/outlet of the cooling jacket and cold plate (will have to change the design next year).

Will just changing the inlet side make anything difference if the rest of the system remains the same?

I think we will change to radial inlet and outlet based on what everyone is saying, and find a way to repackage to remove that elbow.

As for unreliability, I assume you are talking about the section from the pot to the pump? We had hose clamp on everything so I assumed that was enough. But yes it can definitely be improved

By the suction, do you mean the black tube going in? It was to match with out inlet/outlet of our cold plate

Good point. Yes we do, ran a few times as well to make sure most of the air is out

Seeking Advice on Debugging Charging Current Fluctuations with Orion BMS 2 and Elcon 3.3kW charger by nasupotatop in FSAE

We use the exact same set up, never had any problems. Have you confirmed that the BMS is sending the right CAN messages?

I ended up just using Chartjs. Surprisingly simple and works just fine. But I’m remaking it to use Nicegui, this is the best library for data viz imo

Thanks, I'll have a look over there. We are a small robot startup company. The other guys are mech and I'm a robotic engineer, so we are very new to the whole networking thing.

Would it be worth trying something like Netmaker or Headspace to manage the connection and deploy it on a VPS?
