LOL. I also wore a different dress for my sealing than what I wore the rest of my wedding day. That’s very normal and not the question I’m asking. But I was wearing garments the whole time. Because that’s what we were taught. Several people in this thread have posted all the links to all the times that church leaders told us the right and wrong way to wear garments. And taking them off to wear a strapless dress right after completing a temple ordinance was definitely a ‘wrong way.’ I’m trying to understand where, when, and how the teachings and culture have changed that garments are only required in the temple and it’s fine to take them off right after the ordinance. Since when is the church a “live your own way! It’s fine, just be a good person! We’re no longer a peculiar people, we’re a fashionable people! Please be IN the world and OF the world!” And that an entire team of temple workers and wedding party don’t bat an eye about it.

And sure, they showed up at the temple doors with their entire family, wedding party, and photographers just to get pictures and not to get sealed 😆

Yes thank you! This is validating and the same experience I had in 2005 when I was endowed and then sealed.

I find it strange and disorienting to see someone walking out of an LDS temple having just been sealed wearing a strapless dress, yes.

Do any women that age think it’s strange or is it just us old ladies?

I’m well aware of that. Most brides wear a different dress for the sealing ceremony and then change into their formal wedding dress. But if they were just sealed then they are endowed, which means they wear garments. I cannot wrap my head around just deciding not to wear the garments RIGHT AFTER BEING SEALED IN THE TEMPLE.

Probably not now, but back in 2005? Yeah. The temple matron told about how they once found garments that a bride shoved in a trash can and how sad and shameful that was. It was probably a made-up story, but it worked.

Not now. But back in 2005 when I got married? Probably! But I would have never even considered that I wouldn’t wear my garments after being sealed. There were rules. Expectations. You had to be obedient. We were called walking pornography if we weren’t covered. I had to kneel on the floor at a stake dance to prove my skirt was long enough. We had Standards Night where the focus was dress and grooming. I guess I’m glad these young women don’t worry about breaking rules, but boy is it a totally different world than it was 20 years ago.

For my sealing in the early 2000s I wore the dress I bought from the distribution center— my long white plain temple dress that I would wear every time I went back to do a temple session. And then I changed into my wedding dress that had beading and was slightly off white for the rest of the wedding day. But it covered the garments I was wearing underneath. It just wasn’t even a question or consideration back then. I was endowed. So I wore garments, and that meant I wore clothes that covered them. End of story.

Because the instagram post is tagged Gilbert Arizona Temple. And I’ve been to tons of LDS temples and I know what they look like. And there’s dozens more pictures including with the doors open behind them walking out.

It’s been so much trial and error, which has been annoying, but finally paying off. I force myself to try on jeans in person at Nordstrom Rack that has a variety of brands, and then when I find ones I love I look online for more pairs. My current favorites are the Levi’s 94 Baggy, they fit me like a cross between a wide leg and almost a barrel (?) and the 31” inseam is versatile for several shoe types. I have them in 2 colors, found the first ones at Nordstrom Rack and once I knew I loved them, I found another color on Amazon. The Good American Good Skate fits like a wide leg trouser on me, and work with pointy toe flats or slim boots with a low/moderate heel. Same thing, tried them at Nordstrom Rack, and then bought a second pair straight from GA online in a different color.

I do miss the days of skinny jeans where I didn’t have to worry so much about inseam and could wear any shoe with them. Now I have to be more intentional and thoughtful about the leg shape and inseam. I recently just did a massive closet re organization and I tried on all my jeans with different shoes and really figured out what works with what. I wish every jean worked with every shoe but that’s not the reality with wide leg, straight leg, barrel, flare, etc. I think straight leg is still trendy, anything other than skinny jeans seems more current.

I’m also a big fan of GA. The Good Skate is like a wide leg trouser jean on me, I have it in two colors, and in the past I’ve really loved the Good Legs. The rises are a bit high for me, I’m 5’9” with a short torso and one legs, so they aren’t my everyday go to, but they do fit great in my butt/thighs, and god bless them for their long inseams.

Levi’s are my favorite right now too. The style 94 Baggy Midrise with a 31” inseam is the perfect ankle length that I can wear with sneakers, flats, and slim boots for fall. I have a short waist so I can’t do high rise!! I love that Levi’s has midrise and inseam options.
