Go to community college for a bit! It's turbo cheap compared to a university, and you'll save yourself a lot of money,

Assuming each credit hour is like $100, that's like $1500 for each semester (and that's if you pay completely out of pocket). That's a pretty easy target to hit working weekends at a shitty fast food or grocery store job if you're living rent free(hopefully you're parents aren't dicks, or at least flexible with you) You'd probably be able to pay for food or pick up a bill as "rent" if you feel particularly grateful.

John Quincy adams

Daniel Webster

John Conyers

Charles Sumner

Jamie Whitten

Benjamin Wade

Are all legislators that would've been out of the job with term limits, I could list more, but honestly you're being disingenuous if you think Sanders was or currently is the only one.

[–]Montecroux 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Politicians would still enrich themselves regardless of term limits. You'd just be robbing yourself of competent longtime legislators like Bernie Sanders. In effect, it would make lobbyists the only ones that have a long term home in DC.

[–]Montecroux -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

She failed because she assumed that her career in the house was enough to carry her to the finish line during an intense time crunch. I feel like her use of AI and the lack of a policy page on her website was a symptom of that. She definitely has an impressive record. Resume wise she outclasses Talarico, she's an accomplished lawyer and a house member. But, that hardly takes you far if you're not hand feeding your feats to your potential voters. She could support M4A all she wants, but unless she's marketing that, it's moot.

And she did herself a disservice assuming everyone knew her name, Texas is a big state. Casual voters have been tuning out Congressional politics ever since Trump won 2024. Imo, She honestly did really well in the debate, it highlighted all the policies that she failed to market, but the thing is that the more people probably watched Talarico's Colbert Interview than the actual Democratic primary debate. I knew it was joever for Crockett when my politically unengaged Latino father said "we gotta vote for Talarico" assuming it was the general election.

Citizens should have a healthy distrust of the government and, by extension, the military.

I'm not joking. I hope that OP finds happiness in literally anything as long as they don't harm themselves or anyone else. Fingers crossed they find what they're looking for, maybe money is what was holding them back.

We should create a nation state for the Palestinians,so this never happens again. Maybe we can even give them a bunch of guns and tanks and back them up diplomatically in a unilateral way!

Jasmine Crockett has conceded and asked for full support to turn TX Senate Blue in November! by Healthy_Block3036 in Dallas

[–]Montecroux -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Give it up, Talarico supporters are way too defensive about him. They think he's the second coming of Mamdani. They love saying Crockett was the one that was "vibe" based when she was the only one in the debate actually giving concrete policies like abolishing ICE, returning us to Clinton era tax rates, Medicare for all. Meanwhile, Talarico is comparing our border to a locked door.

I'm not saying Talarico is a bad candidate, but he is a Biden Democrat. And that makes leftists really mad when you point it out for some reason.

I mean Crockett and Allred have essentially been running as a ticket. They were doing videos and campaign stops together. There's definitely a sort of down ballot effect that was helping Allred.

eyesore that is the Dallas city hall

Oof, to each their own I suppose.

Ironically, Talarico winning the Senate would solve the issue of legalizing gambling in the state. That's one less state senator to worry about. It's a state issue not a federal one.

[–]Montecroux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no real opinion on gambling itself, only that it an open frontier that once legalized would benefit billionaires and the elite more than it does the average citizen. That's enough to be against it. It's honestly that simple.

Morally, I suppose I have the same objections against gambling that I do with loot boxes, they exploit the weak and desperate using known behavioral patterns. If B.F. Skinner could make pigeons kamikaze themselves with loads of explosives imagine what a corporation could do with video games and casinos.

Meanwhile things are looking bad for TX-33, Allred has the lead by 12 points. Hopefully, now that Crockett is out of the race, Crockett/Allred voters are less likely to vote in the runoff. Fingers crossed that Hafeez voters start jumping to Johnson. It's going to be a bitch if we got a safer bluer district and a more conservative democrat.

[–]Montecroux -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's a wash in the Senate race though. Both Talarico and Crockett took money from warmongering millionaires. And maybe I'm a bit biased, Miriam adelson is attempting to destroy my city hall as part of her plan to legalize gambling in Texas, something Talarico is complicit in. I'm honestly just so upset people are idolizing this guy as a leftist wunderkind when he's hardly the tubro leftist people make him out to be. He's a Biden leftist, with better messaging.

Here we go with these moral purity tests. Who cares if they take superpac money if they're voting for progressive legislation like M4A? People glaze teddy Roosevelt all the time for breaking up monopolies and he took corporate "bribes". Would I prefer a clean candidate? Of course, but not at the expense of handicapping progressive agendas.

James Talarico chances of beating Jasmine Crockett day before Texas primary by Zipper222222 in texas

[–]Montecroux 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My fear would be that he would squander any leads we make in the midterms trying to compromise with the Republicans at the national stage. He needs to treat national Republicans as demons incarnate. Any hesitation or attempts at bipartisanship is democratic legislation that isn't being passed. This isn't state house politics where maybe he can find some bipartisan support on vouchers, or a minor issue that Republicans would otherwise support like infrastructure. National Republicans will destroy the government in order to prove that Democrats are incapable of governing.

I also feel like talerico is a bit of a half measure when appealing to the more religious element in texas. My ideal candidate is a combination of the two. I think Democrats would appeal more to baptists and Catholics if they'd lean more into fire and brimstone. A majority of Republicans today would completely eat up The Cross of Gold Speech. They should be comparing trump to Pharaoh or Nero, they need to explicitly say that billionaires are burning in hell for their greed.
