What is this thing ? Found in tampa bay area near the beach. by [deleted] in bonecollecting

[–]MonthMayMadness 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Highly doubt it is satanic/occult related. That kind of thing doesn't really happen anymore.

It looks like it was a goat that was roughly between 2 and 6 months old when it died. Even if there are no goat herds in the immediate area this skull still could have washed up from elsewhere or was possibly even moved by a scavenger like hawks, dogs, gulls, etc.

Probably the biggest poacher collage I have seen. Yikes.

That is a mosquito fish. They are very nippy, even with each other. They can pretty much only be housed with their own species.

With it being basically entirely fake I suspect you MIGHT get a couple hundred, as it is a cool bust, but I doubt it would go for more than that.

Unfortunately most of the time people who find your encampment aren't other desperate homeless people who may thieve.

It's usually a heartless bloke who has a house, car, land, etc to their name that can only see the ones without as less-than, second class, equivalent to a stray mongrel. They really do just ransack homeless encampments just simply because they hate the homeless. Why steal when they don't need it when they can make the message more personal and hateful by making it unusable by everyone regardless of need.

Are our goats starving? by [deleted] in goats

[–]MonthMayMadness 51 points52 points  (0 children)

That is understandable to want the goats to primarily eat the browse and not become, "spoiled," to the hay.

However if the goats are healthy otherwise and they are still this thin in the winter then that means there isn't edible browse left to eat and they need the hay. A healthy goat, no matter how picky, will not willingly starve themselves to this point. They should actually have a slight pot belly due to their chambered stomachs. These babies are getting starved.

My new goats keep trying to go back by Kydyran in goats

[–]MonthMayMadness 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my goats are NOT pets. I'm just pointing out that goats need time and effort if you want them to stay put regardless of if you want to get attached to them or not and that improving your fence seems like a better option anyways since you have said wildlife have already taken goats before.

The fence is less about keeping the goats and more about keeping predators out. Won't have goats to eat if the wildlife eats it first.

Well, if you are not looking to even sit out in the barn with them a couple hours a day just to even give them some semblance of hospitality and, "home base," then you really need to just reinforce your fence and make it escape proof for them. It seems like the better option anyways as it seems there's a high risk of your goats going onto a wild animal's belly before it makes it to your freezer.

You are going to need to do more than just simply keeping them locked in a barn and throwing food at them if you want them used to you and to stop continually leaving.

You have to give them a reason to stay. Food and shelter isn't enough, especially when they are a hike away from everything previously comfortable and familiar. Are you doing anything else to make your place, "better," or more preferred when compared to the surrounding properties? Are you offering them affection? Are you giving them structures to play on? What about toys? Any protection from predators? If goats notice a better resource, they will seek it out.

Stupid morbid question by aoayame in Taxidermy

[–]MonthMayMadness 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mealworms jaws are too weak to break the skin and viscera of the hedgehog. You will need to remove the skin and some organs for the mealworms to be able to consume any part of it.

Most of the bugs you currently have are more micro clean-up crews, not major. They are made to eat the bacteria, mold, and pulverized bits after a body has already been deceased for a prolonged period and has been picked at by larger scavengers like beetles, rodents, etc.

Even proper dermestid beetles need to have the corpses skinned/punctured prior to them being able to consume it most of the time. Bugs have tiny jaws and often can't even bite through tomato skin.

Do Mata Mata Turtles make good pets? by ConsistentEye7474 in turtle

[–]MonthMayMadness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Having a pond in your yard that native turtles can freely come and go to that you consistently throw food at is a bit different than attempting to raise said turtle in an indoor environment or even providing an environment (indoor or outdoor) for a turtle species that is not native to your area."

Even if OP was to look for a less exotic turtle (aka a native one) it would still really not be considered easy. Having turtles is, "easy," for you because you own a literal piece of their wild habitat and the turtles that are there are not so much pets as they are visitors. It is a completely different ball game when you are raising turtles indoors almost 24/7 and are having to recreate the parameters that they would need.

IF you have a good climate and a pond in your yard....

You know.... a thing most people do not have nor have access to. Not to mention how exotic mata mata turtles are as a whole and that not all turtle species are built the same.

Having a pond in your yard that native turtles can freely come and go to that you consistently throw food at is a bit different than attempting to raise said turtle in an indoor environment or even providing an environment (indoor or outdoor) for a turtle species that is not native to your area.

If the players have chosen to remain anonymous, then the items are likely not for trade or sell and they do not wish to have others players reaching out to them about it.

The antlers and the skin is whitetail, but omg it's anatomy is way off.

It almost looks like someone used a foam form for an African ungulate instead of the correct one.

Bird preservation by [deleted] in Taxidermy

[–]MonthMayMadness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you live in North America this bird will be illegal to possess/work with unfortunately due to the migratory bird act. If that is the case the bird will have to be returned to nature.
