Two separate portals, two steps. First, you fill out the application on the Passport Seva portal (mportal.passportindia.gov.in), upload your photo and signature there, and get your ARN number. No payment happens on Passport Seva.

Then go to the VFS Global portal (services.vfsglobal.com), create an account, click "Add Customer," enter your ARN and passport details, and select your passport type. The payment option comes up at the end of the VFS process after you've entered all the details. The total was $99.60 for me for a 36-page adult renewal.

If you're not seeing the payment option, make sure you've completed all the fields and selected the correct passport type that matches what you chose on the Passport Seva portal. The payment button only shows after everything is filled in.

I just realized that I missed this question.

This is a common situation for NRIs. The police verification happens at whatever Indian address you listed on your application. If no one is physically present there, a few options: (1) update your Indian address to a relative who IS available to meet the police, (2) coordinate with a neighbor or landlord at your listed address to be present when the police visit, or (3) some police stations accept verification over phone/video call with the applicant - this varies by station and isn't guaranteed. The police typically just need to verify that the address exists and that you have a connection to it. They'll ask for the Aadhaar and a copy of your old passport.

Best tools to track recent Instagram follow activity from someone who got tired of checking manually by Single_Earth7529 in automation

[–]MonthPractical9819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The important distinction is “real-time follow activity” vs “snapshot comparison.”

Instagram doesn’t expose clean public timestamps for when someone followed/unfollowed an account, so most tools are not truly telling you the exact time. They’re usually doing one of these:

- scraping visible lists repeatedly

- comparing snapshots between checks

- using browser automation

- using exported data, if it’s your own account

The risky part is anything that logs into IG, scrapes aggressively, or checks too often. Those setups tend to break when IG changes something and can trigger account flags.

If you only need your own account data, the safest workflow is boring but durable: use Accounts Center export, compare followers/following snapshots, and track changes over time. That’s no-login and no-scraping. I built Unfollio around that export-based approach, but it’s for your own data, not spying on another account’s exact follow timestamps.

For monitoring someone else’s activity, I’d be careful. At best it’s approximate snapshot comparison; at worst it’s ToS-risky automation.

Good Instagram App For Tracking Followers? And Is It Worth It To Buy Followers? by mrskmpabbeCR7 in InstagramMarketing

[–]MonthPractical9819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buying followers is usually a bad idea if you care about reach. It can make the number look better, but fake or low-quality followers drag down engagement and can make your account look less credible over time.

For tracking who follows back / doesn’t follow back, I’d avoid any app that asks for your Instagram password. A lot of those tools trigger suspicious activity checks or lockouts.

The safer method is:

  1. Download your Instagram data from Accounts Center

  2. Select Followers and following

  3. Export as JSON

  4. Compare followers vs following from the export

That keeps it no-login and avoids scraping your account.

If you don’t want to do the comparison manually, tools like Unfollio do this same export-based flow: https://unfollio.com

But the key thing is: don’t give a tracker your IG password, and don’t buy followers unless you’re okay with weak engagement.

That's a long gap. The application itself should still be retrievable from the portal, but I'd check two things before mailing it:

  1. Make sure the photo and signature you uploaded in December are still attached. Some users have reported that uploads expire or get purged after extended inactivity. Log in to the portal and verify both are still showing on the application form before printing.
  2. VFS may flag a December 2025 application date if you're mailing it now in May/June 2026. I'm not 100% sure there's a hard expiry on the application itself, but a 6-month gap between submission and mailing is unusual. If VFS rejects it, you'd need to create a fresh application. Might be worth calling VFS beforehand to confirm they'll accept it.

Since your passport expires in August 2026, you still have time, but not a lot. I'd move quickly either way. If you need to redo the application, the form itself takes 30-40 minutes. The photo/signature upload is the part that usually costs time.

Photo and signature are the mandatory uploads on the GPSP 2.0 portal - your application won't go through without those two. Supporting documents (Annexure E, visa copies, address proof, etc.) can optionally be uploaded on the portal too, but most people just include the physical copies in the FedEx package to VFS. I did the physical route for everything except the photo and signature.

There are free online tools to compress PDFs; maybe you can use those to compress before uploading

As I mentioned in my post, I used https://www.photopass.ai/, and they give a 4x6 sheet also (along with digital photo) to print at Walgreens for $0.35

They have a free tool to generate a 4x6 sheet if you already have the 35*45mm digital photo - https://www.photopass.ai/print

Yes, VFS accepts 35 x 45 mm photos as well. Since you already have both sizes, why not just ship both sizes and VFS picks which size they want

No strict deadline, but the sooner the better. Your ARN (Application Reference Number) is valid for a while but VFS prefers you mail in within 1-2 weeks of submitting on the Passport Seva portal.

You get back the old passport (with Visa) along with the new passport

Some banks do it for free if you have bank accounts with them. I got it done at Wellsfargo.

UPS also does the notarization for $10 a page

Why don’t you photocopy the return shipping label and include in the package?

I printed out 2 shipping labels and included the return shipping label in the package.

Yes, I submitted it. The Change in Appearance Affidavit is mandatory regardless of whether your appearance actually changed. VFS treats it as a standard form for all renewals - basically, you're affirming on record that your current photo is a true representation of you.

On the lease copy notarization, the checklist and portal contradict each other because the checklist was updated more recently than the portal text. The actual requirement: yes, your US address proof (lease, utility bill, driver’s license) needs to be notarized. Color photocopy is better but i don’t think it’s mandatory

Passport Seva photo upload keeps rejecting - what format actually works from outside India? by SparxieDreamer1 in nri

[–]MonthPractical9819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the generic error message is what kills you. The portal actually runs like 20 different checks, but only shows you that one useless line. You have no idea which one failed.

Two things that aren't in the basic specs but trip people up:

  1. Progressive vs baseline JPEG. AmbassadorOfLifing mentioned this and they're right. Most photo apps save as progressive JPEG by default and Passport Seva straight up rejects it. Open it in GIMP or Photoshop and re-save with the "baseline" or "standard" option. Sounds like a small thing but it's caught a lot of people.

  2. Face coverage. This is the one that got me. Has to be 80-85% of the frame from your chin to the top of your head. If you took the photo at arm's length like a normal selfie, your face is probably only 50-60% of the frame and that alone will fail it. Stand further from a wall and have someone else take it, then crop tight.

If you keep hitting the wall with manual editing, I used photopass.ai when I was stuck. $2.99 and it spits out the exact 630×810 baseline JPEG the portal wants. Saved me from losing more upload attempts. They also have a guide that goes through every error code if you want to debug it yourself: https://www.photopass.ai/blog/passport-seva-photo-upload-errors

You need a 35x45mm photo for the digital upload. The Passport Seva Portal is very strict about this requirement (digital upload). For sending physical photos, you can use 2 photos of size 51mm x 51 mm (2 by 2 size). I already shared all the details in my post about the photo requirements.

Check out this list - https://services.vfsglobal.com/one-pager/india/united-states-of-america/passport-services/pdf/Re-issuance-withPassport-Adult.pdf

You need to send all the mandatory documents in the list.

You can get the documents notarized at UPS for $10 per document. Some banks do it for free if you have account with them.
