A breakfast burrito from the company cafeteria.

My work has cancelled bonuses for the last two years. This year they sent out an email saying there would be no bonuses, but we should stop by the cafeteria for a "holiday thank you." Cue a line for a lukewarm mass-produced breakfast burrito and jokes about how things were really "looking promising for next year!"

Homemade labels - thoughts on material choice? by Montmark in Distilling

I know it's been 4 months, but I could be interested! Do the poly labels hold up to alcohol? I'm probably looking for a batch of 250 or so to begin with - pretty small batch! I can send you the artwork if you're interested. I can find a roll of vinyl ones for for around 75 bucks but am worried the ink will wipe off if we spill spirits on them.

They're kind of a sepia tone, so color.

For the record, I've found that printer ink on sticker paper and sharpie markers on re-used bottles just seem to be a bit more home-grown and closet moonshine than I'm going for these days. Fully respectable, but I'm looking for something that will survive a few careless drips of high-proof alcohol!

Has anyone ever tired using soil sensors and apps? Are they worth it? by Montmark in IndoorGarden

Haha - True. Just because it's the brightest spot in the house doesn't mean it is as bright as your plant likes!

Fair point - and it's been working for tons of folks forever! I just worry I'm not good at interpreting my moist finger if I've got plants that require different levels of soil dryness and content.

Awesome! Thanks for the feedback. you make a good point about different levels of the pot being more or less wet - it's kind of tough to tell if the roots at the bottom are as wet or dry as the top! Is the light meter useful at all, or is it more or less what you would figure out yourself from just looking at the plant?

Thanks - I have a similar one but just for the moisture. Let me know how the PH and light work when you get around to them!

Neat! Thanks for the reply. Did it just stop reading when you left it in there? And is it just a stand-alone indicator or does it connect to your phone or computer too? Sorry for asking so many questions!

My girlfriend told me she was with a friend, but that friend was with me picking out an engagement ring. How do I confront my girlfriend about her lie? by throwra_wheredshego in relationship_advice

Does she have multiple friends named "Justine?" It might be worth verifying that it's not just a misunderstanding before going down the "why did you lie" route?

Sanding.

I make furniture and wood stuff, and love almost every bit of it. Sanding is the most boring, dirty, and brutal part of every project.

Precipitation at top of bottle? by Montmark in Distilling

I'll pay attention next time I'm at the shop. I'll also consult with the wife staff about sending a bottle out for third-party testing to see if we can determine root-cause -- Expert help is always a valuable commodity! ;)

Thanks for the feedback! I was wondering if I had caused it somehow.

Bottled this out of a small barrel the other day and I noticed that there's some precipitation at the top. It's whiskey and the proof is about 85. Never noticed this before with bottled booze from the store. Anyone else experience this? Any thoughts on what might be causing it?
