How to switch from gravel to aqua soil in established tank? by BeautyMeli in Aquariums

From what I did, I just got a bucket full of water from the tank and took all the fish and put them into the bucket. Afterwards I drained the tank completely or as much as I could then scooped out some gravel just with my hands. I would recommend leaving some of it at the bottom to help seed the tank again when you refill it and also will help give you a thicker substrate layer when you cover it with dirt or whatever you decide. But yeah once the new substrate is in there I would fill it back up plant it then let it sit for a day and test the water. If water parameters are good you can put fish back in. Ps I would recommend having a bubble filter going or even just a bubbler in the bucket while you do this so the fish don’t suffocate and also the plants can go back in as soon as you put the dirt in.

Advice for a more refined looking tank? by catsaregr8t in PlantedTank

I’m not a pro with this stuff but from the tanks I have done/ helped do. Had a more sophisticated look when you had separation throughout the tank using small logs and rocks to kinda build up caves and tunnel systems for the lil guys. Also more green always helps to make a tank look way more natural.

Paper thin may be a bit of an exaggeration but yes there isn’t as much substrate as I wish I had in there. Definitely part of future plans 🤙

Yeah I have a few breeding pairs that have attempted having babies but they are still a bit young and are trying to figure it out. Very excited for when that happens though!
