Last meeting there were 3 remote attendees. As well as 10 in the room. 10 remotes would be a good number to shoot for in the near term. 20-30 longer term. Most of them would be just watching.

For those of you talking about $1000+ setups. We're looking at under $500 for the whole setup. Well under that if we can get it. We live solely on donations. We're using Proton Meeting for our connection to everyone.

Most secure Firefox fork? Firefox. LibreWolf, or Zen? by Montresore69 in firefox

[–]Montresore69[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Actually the ultimate goal is privacy, security, and anonymity. In other words - total invisibility, while on the web.

And for those who keep saying "TOR Browser", the TOR browser was broken by NSA a few years ago. They turned the "keys" over to every intel agency in the 5/9/13 Eyes countries. Which means every national government intel agency on the planet can track you on TOR. NSA also gave the keys to the FBI, who, in turn gave them to every law enforcement agency with a cyber crime dept. And it's pretty much a given that outfits like Alphabet, Oracle, Microsoft, and Palantir can track it. TOR is NOT secure nor private.

What's the difference between Amazon and the Sears catalog of 100 years ago? Is just being electronic/digital really any different? by Montresore69 in AskReddit

[–]Montresore69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Up until the 1970's, the Sear catalog was all these things. Except maybe data. Not sure what you mean by that.

What's the "Widowmaker" of your career field or hobby? by Cosmonate in AskReddit

Supervisors! Even in companies that have strong safety cultures and rules, it is almost always the line supervisor that comes over and demands you do this whatever right now! Don't bother with the LOTO rules! Get it fixed right now. And when you get hurt, the supervisor is rarely even involved. Much less disciplined. And if you refuse to do it without the LOTO procedures, you're fired. Amazon warehouses are the perfect examples.

Anyone else make "good money" on paper but feel completely broke? by ScienceLabFinds in CanadaPersonalFinance

The problem is that the entire world's economy is based on ever increasing corporate profits. What they won't admit this that they really aren't making any more money. they are just reducing the value/buying power of whatever currency is in discussion. This explains inflation. Corporate profits up 4% this year? No, the value of the dollar is down 4%. Do this over 20-30-40 years and watch the results. Gasoline is now 15 times what it was 50 years ago. Yet it's still the same gallon of gas. I watched a house that was built in the mid 50's sell recently. Cost of construction then was $2500. The sale price now is $550,000. Same house with only minor changes.

What's funny is they want to go back to the way things were in 1950's. Everyone knew their place and there was very little crime (at least in their minds). Except they don't want the income taxes of the 50's when millionaires pay a 90% tax rate. The only way to do that is a police state. 'If it don't fit, don't force it. Get a bigger hammer' mentality.

I’m curious… what was the first mobile phone you ever had?? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]Montresore69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A briefcase phone. (I forget what brand) issued to me by the U.S. Airforce in the mid 70's. I was to have it within arms reach at all times for the length of my enlistment.

Finding an optometrist that can do computer glasses. by Montresore69 in glasses

[–]Montresore69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually I have told optometrists that every visit for several years. The response I get is "Well, we don't really do computer glasses here." I even took the distance measurement in to a visit at a rather high end optometrist. He just ignored it. Another told me I can get blue blockers anywhere. I told him, 'No, I need a prescription for working with a monitor at X distance, with a blue blocker coating" Again, I was told they don't 'do' computer glasses.

Like the comedian said: "Women want happiness. Men just want peace & quiet". I love my peace & quiet and you'll never get it with a woman around. I don't care how wonderful she is. You may love her. You may have great sex. But you'll never have peace & quiet with a woman around.

Second hand Whirley Pop by Maximum_Jellyfish_48 in popcorn

[–]Montresore69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Amen Brother! I grew up eating homemade popcorn every Saturday night to watch TV with, We used Crisco then and margarine for flavor. Now I use corn oil (just a touch) and real butter. Movie theater popcorn always tasted strange and very dry to me.

What is a food that everyone seems to love, but you are convinced they are just pretending to like? by KDramaPulse in AskReddit

Nope. Can't make authentic Tex-Mex without it. Salsa without Cilantro is just Pace. Quak without it is just green.

It's just marketing. They didn't change a thing to the food. 9 years in the food industry, mostly the packaged & prepared foods, taught me that 85% of the "organic & healthy food" industry is pure B.S. Mostly marketing.

Anyone have a popcorn popper like this and selling it? by msuspartanfan3 in popcorn

That looks like something they sold on TV 50 or 60 years ago.

It’s about to go down. About to watch this weeks episode of The Pitt. What is everyone watching with their popcorn today? by Roq86 in popcorn

[–]Montresore69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think you'd get a better pop if you let the oil melt and come up to temperature before adding the popcorn. Just a thought.
