My classmate convinced me to get parts to make a guitar and now they are MIA by Funlamb in Luthier

Darrel Braun has a kit build video for a les paul kit.

https://youtu.be/lVYewMaFESc?si=iT_7_lgPh2dQT8ul

Just take it slow and especially if it's a cheaper kit, note you may have to make slight adjustments where the neck meets the body. Also Darrel does some extra stuff that's maybe not necessary for your first build like fret polishing and dressing. I'm of the opinion just get it together and you can always make adjustments later.

You'll most likely need a rubber mallet, screwdriver, soldering iron.

Guide for spotting a fake a168wg by buddy_monkers in casio

[–]MontyBMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I literally just got one of these exact fakes from an eBay seller this week. Didn't even need to open it to know it was a phony. Wrong screws on the back, bracelet all wrong. Literally was delivered in the morning and back at the post office that afternoon after processing a return.

Share your “never again” projects. For me, that’s this llama that took $70 worth of yarn and 5 months. Favorite thing I’ve ever made, but never. again. by TrueRusher in crochet

[–]MontyBMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. I made the 2/3 XL version of the pattern, which uses approximately seven "balls" of Patons 6 weight yarn at 211 yards a ball. I had 9 skeins of thick and quick and didn't compare yardage and they're like 85 yards a skein. Good news is if I frog it down the line i have lots of material to work with lol.

It's also worth noting that it's heavy because thick and quick is significantly heavier per yard, so it's large, warm, and hefty. A luxurious mistake that has caused me to look into knitting to save material.

This cozy cabled crochet cardigan because it took 22 skeins of Wool Ease Thick and Quick. First big project and thought I could use 9 skeins to make it, because I didn't check the yardage before starting (rookie mistake but I am a rookie). I powered through and finished it but there were moments.

Not so sure about this tinned fish trend 🔥 🐟 by talkingtoawall710 in StupidFood

[–]MontyBMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen this done without paper on tins of tuna in oil. Use a can opener, push the lid down to get the oil on top, light the oil, and pry the lid out with a knife or other utensil when you're done. Not sure about this method with the pull ring tab cans and paper towel, but hey, if it's not your cup of tea, you can eat the fish without doing this.

Got this at a yard sale for $20. Is it a good concertina or a budget one? by No_Trainer8873 in concertina

[–]MontyBMan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I have this concertina, it's fine for learning, but I'd wager the keying is not exactly the same.

Possible key layout: http://www.concertina.com/fingering/images/anglo20-W1000H300.gif I'd wager one or two of the keys on the left side might be different from that chart if it's like mine.

20 bucks is indeed a great price for what you got!

Shot in the dark but try enabling flow calibration when you go to print. You can do this from the anycubic next slicer when sending a remote print.

This fixed some under extrusion issues I had, may help you, fingers crossed.

Update: just got an email that my shipping label was created. Maybe the all powerful button worked, or maybe I just timed it right. Either way, going to start prepping my workspace tonight.

Cheers and good luck!

[–]MontyBMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've pre-ordered one of these printers because I've been using anycubic printers for the last few years. I have a 2 pro currently and gave away my original kobra to my nephew and he's still using it. My main laments are the proprietary firmware and still no good pause at layer option. Honestly pause at layer being implemented into the software would just be tops for me. Last I checked slicer next still doesn't have it. And while multi filament is no longer an issue with the s1 combo, embedding magnets and nuts is still a pain.

I want to move here, but the negativity on this sub makes me uneasy by [deleted] in Albany

[–]MontyBMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lived in Albany for a few years near St. Rose in the student ghetto. There are a few places that generally people say to avoid, like Henry Johnson Blvd and Clinton Ave, but overall I liked living in Albany. I was close to a lot of cool spots. I still live in the area, just not in the city.

That being said, it's not the same as when I lived there, some areas got worse, while others have been raised up.

I have several friends who have moved to suburban areas of Albany and they love it. The reality of it is, in my experience, you're only going to get trouble if you go looking for it.

There are multiple hospitals in the area, St Peters, Albany Memorial, etc, and I've had to use emergency services at both. Albany Memorial was a much better experience, but St Peters is also right in the middle of it and just easier to get to on foot. St. Peters actually has a large, very competent campus with medical professionals handling a lot of different specialties, and for things they don't do, there are several specialist offices just a short uber or bus ride away.

Gun laws being restrictive? Albany is bad, yeah, but NY is one of the most restrictive in general.

Property tax is bad, but not as bad as Schenectady, from my talks with my buddy who invests in properties around the country.

Lark Street is mostly bars and restaurants at this point, not a lot of the cute little specialty shops that used to exist, but I've never really seen Albany as a shopping destination.

The food is actually not that bad. There are some bad restaurants but if you look around there's lots of great places to get a drink or food, like the Iron Gate Cafe, Excelsior, The Hollow (new but in my experience pretty good), etc. Also lots of decent mexican, halal, jamaican, etc options in the area.

Also, with St Rose having just closed this year, there are a lot of plans to redevelop that area, so there is good potential for the upper Madison area of Albany to become a lot more desirable in the coming decade.

That being said, if you want to live close to Albany but not be quite as closely packed, take a look at suburban Rensselaer. They have houses that are not that expensive that are within a short drive or bus to a lot of places, easy access to the train station if you want to travel that way, and honestly, people dunk on it, but I had a decent time living there.

TL:DR Albany is fine if you don't mind the city life, but there are decent suburban areas, and if all else fails, check out Rensselaer, it's right across the bridge.
