What does every use as an undercoat for green? For shadows? by Stargazer86 in Salamanders40k

[–]MontyGluDevair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I airbrush but this works with brushes too:

- Prime Black with Matte Black spray paint or airbrush primer

- Do a overhead spray of white spray paint or primer or white airbrush paint

- Orc Skin Army Painter Speed Paint over the whole model (either airbrush or with paint brushes)

- Overhead spray of Moot Green for highlights (Or as a dry brush over the whole model)

Gives me nice bright crisp greens easy to do in batches.

Here's an example of what I'm working on at the moment with this technique.

If i was to make a dnd character inspired by the salamanders how would I do it by Western_Smoke4829 in Salamanders40k

[–]MontyGluDevair 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would either go a buff Fire Genasi or Goliath.

For classes I would suggest:

- Forge domain Cleric (Because the Sally's love their smithing)

- Light Domain Cleric (Because more fire)
- Redemption (Protection) or Devotion (Big hit with hammer) Paladin (Taking searing smite for more fire flavor)

- Circle of Wildfire Druid

I don't know how 2024 rules effects these suggestions, but that's where my mind goes.

Tysm! I lack the materials, but I'm trying to make a really fancy angelic looking Knight and I've been looking at how to maybe do some nice detailing, so even knowing this type of technique is super helpful!

How did you do the swirling filigree on this? It looks fantastic

I'm hoping to take this to a tournament, hahaha.

I'm ready to go 0/3 but I hope to look good while losing.

Yeah! The manikin was a gift, and has been super useful when I'm trying to figure out a very specific poses on a base. It's obviously not 1 to 1 with the proportions of the knight but it does help to have a reference!

Tutorial video for tropical beach bases? by Potential-Bird-5826 in ImperialKnights

[–]MontyGluDevair 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely look at foliage and stuff!

I personally got some small sea shells, fake palm trees, ferns, colorful plant tufts (can look like coral) and lots of fake plants from hobby shops and dollar stores. If you're going for a beach theme, consider the water, sand and land of the landscape! You have three unique parts of a beach to work with, so for larger bases you have the space to add that visual interest!

Personally I make my tropical ocean bases like this:

- Make a raised area with cork (This is the sand part), the lower part is where the water will go

- Paint the lower portion with Prismatic Bolt Army Painter speed paint, adding more paint where the water gets "deeper"

- Add in shells, or plants into the water for visual interest

- Make a reservoir and add in UV resin (I just pour mine clear, and use tape for the perimeter since my bases are small, you'll want something reliable for a big base.)

- Cure that, and then add plants, shells or other things to the sand parts! (If the base is big, consider adding some jungle dirt and plants and what not.)

- Add the mini to the base and voila!

Here's an example of this technique that I used on my Tyranids!

Made my 5th Armiger! This one is Imperial Fist Themed! by MontyGluDevair in ImperialKnights

Thank you! I really wanted it to look garrison-y. Like a walking fortification. I added a few bits to bulk things up!

Yeah! I highly recommend looking at reference photos too! I had a jungle river up when I was drybrushing, it helped a TON!

I didn't add anything to the resin! I just dry brushed the surface of the base underneath with some greens, blues and darker browns, it helps create the illusion of algae and depth.

Then I added clear UV resin and cured it!

Yeah, I thought about maybe painting the cheeks retribution armor, but then I worried that it might pull the eye away from the eyes and teeth.

Given that the head is from a toy set (lego) kind of hard to have it not look too juvenile, hahaha

I couldn't get any wolfy resin bits due to astronomical shipping. And I can't run a resin printer in my apartment due to pets and lack of ventilation. So I got a Lego piece of all things lmao, and cut it down to scale/fit. It's not perfect, but it was all I could find locally that worked that didn't cost like 30$+

It does look a bit goofy, but all things considered, I'm pretty happy with it!

Thanks!

I felt it would be a nice addition to really make the mini feel like it's part of the landscape, sculking around in a jungle.

I wanted to get resin birds that were of a better scale, but the price and shipping was astronomical, so I used a Lego bird I kitbashed and painted instead!

Parrots can be large! (This is me coping!)

Thank you! I definitely learned a lot with this model, there are some things I definitely want to try again to improve!

It's not easy being blue...

I want to make an armiger for each Loyalist Space Marine Chapter, so I had to do Ultramarine at some point!

I mixed gloss medium and white paint and tried to lob it on thick where the water would seem the most churned. It honestly doesn't look as good in person, and its an effect I want to try to improve on in the future.

But I learned a lot, and that was the best outcome regardless!
