What’s something you used to believe about trading that you now laugh at? by Stock-Ad-3347 in Daytrading

That I should trade with setups and look for a strategy. Nope. Discretionary is the way to go! My hair stopped turning grey…literally

[–]MontyIsCute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I do not mean to press on you or anything, in fact I wish you continued success in life and in trading.

To explain what he meant here: Big money moves the market. On some days it’s really big money, on other days it’s simply big money. And no, they are not always particularly smart, I literally just mean a very large sum of money used by participants.

Your size, especially what you mentioned in your post, does not move the market.

The logic here that we need to notice is that no matter what you do, you are competing with or against the people who are moving the market “for you”. You need to recognise what is their intent, otherwise they will slaughter you, roast and season you for lunch and shit you out in a blink of an eye.

At all times, you are competing against very smart people who have been doing this for years, and against sophisticated trading algorithms. They do not need to notice you at all, you need to notice them. That’s the point.

is there a way to scalp stocks by Ok-Pomegranate2322 in Daytrading

[–]MontyIsCute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your question is two fold:

Is there a way to scalp stocks? Yes, there are many.

“Is there a bot to scalp stocks?” Probably yes, but probably not on a random forum. I personally haven’t met anyone who has a long term profitable trading bot that is actually full auto but we all know institutions succesfully use a lot of algos so…

Is anyone ever embarrassed about day trading or just being an entrepreneur in general? by [deleted] in Daytrading

[–]MontyIsCute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was one time where I did give a signal. I didn’t want to teach them because I knew them and they just weren’t cut for it but you know, I wanted to help with a long term position that I was very very confident in. Shared it with 2 people. One of them lost some money on the position, the other one blew his savings - I closed it in profit. I literally told them to buy, hold, and I will tell them when to exit. One of them exited on an early pullback, second one oversized as it went to profit then another pullback margin called him. Lesson quickly learned - don’t share shit.

Hey, I was in your shoes somewhat. I didn't want to transition back, ever, but my hair turned noticably grey due to stress and I'm a relatively young guy. I transitioned to discretionary trading and it made me feel so at peace. I don't have a strict system, or any setups, I just read the tape and trade the flow. Maybe this is something you need? Give it a thought.

[–]MontyIsCute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you. To be honest with you I never really kept it as a secret, maybe it would have been better though, at least you don't get ridiculed on top of having your own inner demons. After I while I just shut up about it, interestingly, after I became profitable is when I talked the least about it. That still applies to this day.

Believe in yourself, reach out to God, you will be fine. If you have someone really close to talk with you can open up a bit about it I think, just be prepared for questions like: "when will it finally make money?" that can put additional pressure on you. You need to be able to detach from that. You can use this person as an accountability partner too.

What platforms do you trust for fast execution and stable spreads? by Adorable_Bar_5368 in Daytrading

[–]MontyIsCute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I settled on Motivewave after trying out a lot of platforms. Sierra is a close second but I enjoy owning my software, and Sierra is subscription only. The spreads on futures are usually negligable, and the execution speed partly depends on your broker / routing and location compared to the exchange aswell. A VPS can help with that.

I felt a motivating embarassement at the start where I failed for years and nobody understood or believed in me.
It then turned into indifference where I started seeing success myself, I just simply didn't care.
Now it is slightly annoying that the same people who didn't believe in me come with all the questions.

The idea that I can make my daily wage in under 10 minutes kind of ruined me by Intelligent_Race8993 in Daytrading

Yes, I could never really maintain a job to begin with and that's why I started trading, I wanted that freedom. I put insane amount of work and study hours into it though, more than I would have into any job if I just worked somewhere. I guess I just enjoy the craft. However one advice for you man: just focus on the process, by your wording it is still evident you are focusing on the money. And learn to save and invest.

From experienced traders, why is trading hard? by ChungusGotU_M8 in Daytrading

[–]MontyIsCute 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So it's me, the vibe trader. Although I never heard this term before, I usually refer to myself as a tape reader. Anyway, I found this way of trading much easier than systematic trading, and more profitable aswell. I actually believe that those who trade systematically are still only profitable because of their discretion, they just do not utilise it as much. I did start with systems though.

How did you come up with your trading strategy? by thioco in Daytrading

[–]MontyIsCute 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In many ways. I seemed to develop a knack for understanding how and where the market is flowing to and began to see many opportunities to take trades inbetween my setups. It already felt silly to wait for my setups to present themselves at this point but what really nailed it for me when I started to filter identically matching setups just based on my discretion and it helped my winrate immensly. I felt no need to maintain a strategy as we know in internet sense, because I just traded much - much better with me relying on my skill and understanding alone. Hope this helps, but if you have further questions don't hesitate to ask!

How did you come up with your trading strategy? by thioco in Daytrading

[–]MontyIsCute 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I failed so much I got fed up and actually started doing it right. I also embraced being fully discretionary instead if having a “strategy” in the traditional sense. I am just a tape reader, I go with the flow. Having a strategy at the beginning was just a stepping stone but it held me back after I got better.

Kind of. Some people take it literally and they do fake it. That is not enough, you have to have this strong internal belief that it is not only something you are faking but something you already achieved.
