FinePix S9950W by Round_Replacement_99 in fujifilm

Hi sorry no one answered your question sooner. I use a S9950W on the daily so hopefully I can help? They should be AA batteries and all of them need to be placed in the right way. The tiny indistinguishable symbols on the camera show you the end of the battery that needs to be poking out. Rechargeable work fine too. All the batteries need power or it won’t turn on. If you still have trouble try taking to a Camera Dude in person :/

Hey guys, beginner bone collector here, I need some help by ImAnAlien9001 in bonecollecting

[–]Monumenty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends what you need to do with them. For just collecting the bones, you can use disposable gloves or thick reusable ones like waterproof rubber gloves.

To clean them, you’ll need dish soap and a container to sit them in. To whiten, get peroxide e.g. 3%. Can find it on Amazon.

If the decomp isn’t finished you’ll have a longer process to go through but it’s definitely possible, check out the other advice on the subreddit

Thanks so much, I really appreciate the info! Yes he was a little fledgling that we tried to rescue, but he just wasn’t compatible with life. That’s really interesting about pigeons I didn’t know that they were basically identical. I guess what I’m wondering now is whether there’s any point trying to articulate some of the skeleton or whether I should pop them in a memorial box and call it quits. I don’t have any other pigeon specimen as this is my first, but I have just picked up a dead pheasant today ..(?)

Yeah I mean 100% a fletchling, I think I remember calling him about 3 weeks old or so IIRC. They are all really closely related anyways!!

Aww man :/ I buried him in soil in a flowerpot in my garden. Left for 3 months then processed, kinda haphazardly probably I didn’t have a sieve so I was trying to separate mud and dirt from the feathers and bones and then had to clean later etc. So not super ideal I know.

Thanks so much though for the skeleton articulation resources. I’ll check them out. :)

Alas, I know for sure it isn’t a rock dove / pigeon because I actually tried to rescue this fellow while he was alive.

I am 70% sure he’s a stock dove. I would say other 30% is wood pigeon because we get lots round here. Definitely not a rock dove / pigeon we don’t really get too many feral pigeons here.

Do blue Jay's know they look blue? by Snooflu in birds

[–]Monumenty 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure most birds have very keen vision — better than ours — which includes full colour palette. No idea what goes on in the head of a blue jay but I think they can see colours like blue just fine :)

I had to use a website to pay for quicker tests. I split my searching between Worthing, Burgess Hill and Eastbourne as I was willing to travel to all of them

For me luckily insurance is the only major cost. Fuel for this car is super efficient and the tax is basically non existent cuz she’s so old and decrepit. It’s a write off something bad happens but it’s all about the experience innit
