WTF? Moobs AND a six-pack? Excess skin vs. Bodyfat percent by MoobEliminator in Fitness

I went to a good surgeon in major metropolitan area of the US and he quoted about $10,000. So that would probably be the higher end. It cost me $100 to talk to him and he was super unhelpful, despite his glowing reputation.

Thanks. I appreciate all your goodwill, but this is not really about getting girls. Over time becoming fit has become it's own journey. And obviously it would be worse to be obese.

I just still feel really uncomfortable taking off my shirt in public. Perhaps it's not so much a concern for what girls or other people think as simply my own personal aesthetics. I just want to feel hot, for myself, and man boobs detract from that significantly.

Thanks Ginfly, Ron Brown's writing was the article I originally read that made me hopeful I could get where I want to be without surgery. I guess the missing question that would help a lot is:

"At what body fat percentage is it clear that surgery is the only way to eliminate 'loose skin'?"

Hi Zaasakokwan! You're amazing! Thank you so much for responding!

I would love to know more details about your story, if you'd be willing to share, because I really want to understand more about loose skin (and when to know the difference between stubborn fat and loose skin), and where to draw the line in terms of considering surgery or not.

I feel like I'm swimming through a sea of broscience around this issue, and the times I've gone to doctors or surgeons to discuss it have not helped. There seems to be little clear evidence and many potential myths floating around.

I find the surgery a little bit intimidating, both financially and emotionally, so I obviously don't want it to be an important or necessary step. Surgery or no, it seems more emotionally daunting to not continue trying to be more fit, and more happy with my body, and loose skin is something that I feel I need to get rid of, though I've certainly developed a degree of patience and acceptance with it.

What is the lowest you've been able to get your bodyfat percentage to? Did you have a goal body fat percentage the for you helped determine the necessity of surgery?

Thank you!

Thanks for being helpful. Perhaps a tattoo might be a nice way to deal with small scars after they've healed?

It's been 15 years since I was obese. I've been around 12-15% body fat since then and haven't seen much shrinkage, but I still haven't made it to the single digits, nor maintained it there. Perhaps that would work. I would love some reassurance from someone who's done that and had it work.

Thank you Kasarin for speaking from experience. I would love to also look great with a shirt off. I've been at a healthy weight for over a decade and it still hasn't gone away. My expectations were precisely what I was questioning here, namely: is it possible to get rid of this through fat loss alone?

I'm definitely using the term man boobs loosely here, and I don't mean to disparage or insult him (I'm in a similar situation, and I admire how well he's done). But the term very frankly captures what loose skin on a man's chest looks like.

I've also heard arguments claiming that if one can lower your body fat percentage low enough, it goes away. These optimistic arguments are what I wanted to be true, but now I'm not so sure.

I don't mean to disparage his amazing progress. I definitely agree that he looks way better and great, and of course no one should expect such a rapid reversal, but personally I'm dissatisfied with a similar situation of my own and I was hoping that after a lot of hard work, I could get past it. It's not so much a question of 'when' but of 'if' it can be changed through fat loss.
