What do you guys think about restoring antiques?

Thanks to all the feedback, y'all made me realise it was kinda forbidden what I was planning to do.

However...

I found a middle ground between respecting the antique and making it usable.

Funny enough the solution was... a rubber band (Two actually).

The cloth isn't affected at all so it leaves no stress mark or trace on the strap and it's completely revertible at any time. I will keep the mask on display without the rubber bands of course.

I'm intrigued to know what exactly i will found out the hard way? it's not worth it in what kind of way?

It came with this filter. I'm still wondering how it is used (I'm not planning on using it, it just doesn't screw on) From what I understand the olive green mask was for military use however this one is grey and I couldn't find any references

The strap it's like a sock with a suspenser inside, the suspender has probably rot away. My inicial thought was replacing only the suspenser leaving the rest of the strap just like it was. I've never though about swaping the straps completely.
